Froody, you can read my detailed review at the (Dis)Order, but to summarize for everyone else it had some good riffs but I felt like it was sounding a bit too much like riff-recycling (not as much so as Metallica's Death Magnetic, though). Still not a bad record though, could have been much worse.
13 proves that what once was groundbreaking and influential just doesn't cut it anymore. Instead of feeling crushing, it rather sounds sluggish. Not to say it's bad, it just feels too controled and lacks the looseness of their early work. You can't recapture the essence of olden days, 70s are over, and no matter how respectful you are the best you can do is replicate the sound.
Same can be said about all retro trips.
Sigur Ros - Kveikur
I'll drop a few thoughts when I'm done listening.
UPDATE : It's a lot more upfront than anything they've done before. Those expecting ethereal stuff will be sorely disappointed, for it is a lot more immediate and a tad 'darker'. You usually had to go towards their music to get something, this time it comes to you. Unexpected, but I like it that way too. One could say their music always had a lot to offer but this time delivers. Some may feels they're given less than usual and it certainly requires less personal investment to get into it, but it's a grower.
UPDATE2 : np
Wisdom of Crowds, a Bruce Soord (The Pineapple Thief) and Jonas Renkse (Katatonia) collaboration. I'd call it Depeche Mode lite, not bad but pretty unremarkable.
