Kimi ga Nozomu Eien [Series]
Tatsujin:
Visit first post. Updated and finished it.
If you like epic drama series and you haven't seen KgNE, then consider watching it. It's good, with lots of drama. No miracles, no hope involved, this is probably the closest thing you can get to a life-realism event.
Fool010:
One thing I've noticed about KGNE is people focusing only on the romance/drama angle while the series is a quite accurate case study on different forms PTSD can take.
All characters deal with a heavy trauma, and they do it like actual humans beings do ... imperfectly, though it gets a tad overdrawn at moments. But given to the circumstances, most reactions are understandable and none should be saying "I wouldn't act like that" before having been there.
I've read a bunch of posts in this topic from people who obviously have no idea how it feels getting crushed by life. Trauma can reach such proportions it'll get too much for you to cope with, and you'll just walk around like a mindless robot because your ability to think and react got annihilated.
(click to show/hide)The most affected is of course Haruka, but Takayuki could just have been struck by the car too because he basically walks around in a waking coma, like some kind of zombie. Mitsuki throws her life away in her -failed-attempt to pull him back to life, out of misguided guild. She's is at no point responsible for Haruka being in a coma, unless you consider there is some responsibility to be taken in an unfortunate chain of events. Akane reverts into a brat, angry at everyone and Shinji just decides to sit at the sideline. And what to say about Harukas parents, who consistently took the worst course of action, pushing Takayuki away when he suffered the most and sent him out to dry out in the desert, and then call him back without ever thinking about how much they've hurt him, and how much they're hurting him again. Paradoxically, it's Haruka who saves him by waking up. She unlocks the situation for everyone, for they basically all were caught up in her coma, unable to live on. It just happened life didn't restart where it stopped. Haruka is a victim for sure, but you can't blame the rest of the cast for trying to survive.
I haven't been able to determine any time scale from the series, but I felt that Harukas and Takayukis relationship wasn't that long until the accident. Which means, it wasn't yet that fleshed out and none could be certain it would've worked anyway. I must admit I'm quite puzzled when people complain about Tomoya of Clannad chosing the meek Nagisa instead of the strong willed Tomoyo, and complain too when Takayuki makes the opposite choice.
While not 100% realistic, people in the course of the series act, think and make choices in a plausible way. More than anything else, the series reminds us that we may not be as strong as we think we are. It's easy to "support" people by telling them "don't do this/I wouldn't do that", but unless you went through something comparable, just don't talk like you know how it feels.
Tiffanys:
I didn't read any of the thread but I want to comment about whose "fault" it is.
(click to show/hide)It isn't any of the main character's faults. Regardless of what they did or didn't do and what choices they made, in the end it was the driver's fault, and theirs solely.
Going and blaming yourself (them) or someone close to you for something neither they nor you had any control over... something something... tired.
Anyways, it's the driver's fault and not theirs and you shouldn't try to place blame on any of them for it.
I was glad the series ended the way it did. I felt bad for Haruka, but I loved Mitsuki and I was proud of her and happy for her. I felt closest to her I guess.
And I mean... it was like 10 years... I don't see it going any other way in the real world. But, there's always Kimi ga Nozomu Eien 2 for those that prefer Haruka. Personally, I can't even watch it because I watched the English dub for the original (yeah, shut your mouth you stupid dub haters, I don't even want to hear it.), and I really liked it. So, I can't stand the original voices in the second... if it ever gets dubbed I'll watch it I guess. But, I got really attached to their English voices. I especially liked how Haruka said Takayuki... it's stayed with me a long time.
Havoc10K:
you are right there tiff :)
that is the only person to blame I suppose :)
Tatsujin:
It's summer time. My desktop wallpapers have been shuffling and the past two weeks I've seen Hayase Mitsuki ... So, I'm going to add it to my list to re-watch. This should be around my 25th time watching the TV series.
