If he won't get those powers then he's most likely going to develop new ones since Bleach is a fighting anime/manga. It's an interesting approach to be honest. I mean, the whole story has been built on Ichigo having an enormous amount of chakra reiatsu being the son of a Shinigami. Now what?
I wonder if Kubo originally intended for Ishiin to reveal himself as a Shinigami from the very beginning.
