You hardly ever see the source of beam and its target without a scene cut in SEED. Plus, that would add an element of epic, which they clearly were trying to avoid.

Yeah, this is true.

Beam Sabers are a good plot device, because the idea is that one hit from one should immediately destroy or severely damage any suit it touches - either way, the battle is over. Directed well, a fight scene with them can be really tense, as both combatants fight harder and harder, searching for that one single hit which is insta-death for the enemy; i.e. Samurai combat on a massive scale.

SEED however went the other direction. The convenient thing about Beam Sabers is if they clash all the time, no-one actually gets hit and there is no damage to the two suits involved. They don't have to animate battle-damage and it makes it easier to re-use animation. Plus, when someone does get hit, you just have a swipe followed by an explosion; no further exhibition is needed. Then of course, Destiny destroyed the "tense" nature of Beam Saber combat by making it far too survivable. Wing, for all of its plot-armour, doesn't even approach THAT moment of Destiny...

Someone needs to reuse Epyon. That thing was epic.

I prefer Tallgeese III, myself, if I'm to pick a favourite suit from Wing.

nstgc:
Nah, the sword that Epyon uses is the best in my opinion. I think its the only one that connects directly to the suit. There aren't too many weapon systems on MS which draw from the reactor directly. There were the strange Gundams from X, ZZ (which was a POS of a Gundam). Theres that one cannon that feeds off of other MSs. I'm sure there are more, but I can't remember them. I don't count the Psycho Gundam as a Mobile Suit by the way.

Actually, Zeta has the hyper mega cannon or whatever it's called that feeds of a suit's power.

Also, the ending of the Gundam Wing manga is quite different to the anime.

(click to show/hide)In the manga, to destroy the space fortress that's going to crash on earth, the Gundams connect together all of their power supplies and shunt the power through the Zero's twin buster rifle.
