Is this... really just about him trying to get laid while trying to survive? The pacing really is terrible though. It takes about 4 episodes for 1 hunt.

Also Miss Melons reminds me of Sakura from Naruto, which isn't a good thing.

looking back on it, the pacing kinda makes sense. if you were suddenly put in their shoes, every minute would seem like forever. wouldn't it?

its one of those things like you just said, where like something horrific is even happening in a movie a 10 second clip of something horrific could seem like eternity. And he fact that most people would probably react fairly similar to how the characters did in the show(probably minus the completely random sex scene)

I heard the manga is much better than the series. If you read manga you might wanna try it. Otherwise, ignore it. The series was a shit, put in a can, rolled around from a hill, and opened after a month. Thats how I would describe it.

gantz was one of the animes i had to drop because i couldnt take the pain any longer, the description and tags make it look like a winner...but the plot (or lack of) is so boring

I hated Gantz, though I managed to get through it without wanting to vomit too much from all that excess blood and gore. I especially hated the main character. Though there was this one scene, I forgot which episode, but there was a player who had survived for a while, but he was a complete ass. At some point, he's about to get killed and the characters are all arguing about whether they should help him or not for, what must have been at least 5 minutes. And the entire time, the guy's just standing there while the monster moves ever so slowly to him. That was just... wow. Why isn't he dead yet? Ugh.

After being used to shows like Naruto. Gantz' slow progression didn't bother me.

I'll be honest, forgot most of it and it was marathoned. The sex scene jumped out of nowhere, then remembered that this show is about fanservice. It's easier for me to get through a series like this than the extremely ecchi fanserviced shows. Mainly because there aren't many like this, while the other fanserviced shows of the nonviolent nature are way too common.

And like Battle Royale. While the original was interesting, the sequels and copycats are boring. One viewing of Faces of Death was enough for me, and didn't bother with it's sequels. Watched all of Gantz to see the conclusion, but alas, proved to be a typical anime.

Can't a piece of pulp fiction be enjoyed for the sheer exploitativeness of it? I personally am sick of anime trying to add unnecessary depth and ruining the show, Code Geass' collective unconscious bollocks springing to mind.

Ok, just finished it up. The two halves of Gantz were so completely different it boggles the mind.

The first half was slow as all hell, and at times I wanted to scream at the characters to tell the to just shoot the damn gun already! Gah. The first half pissed me off so much. I didn't need the backstory of all the new characters that got introduced. Waste of time. They could have done an entire alien battle in place of that garbage.

The second half is a whole different story though. I loved it! Much faster paced (for Gantz at least) and more action. It reminded me of Berserk more than anything, with how all of my favorite characters got killed off. The ending was... I'm not sure what it was. But it was brilliant regardless. For this series, it was the perfect ending. Not knowing if he lived or died, or what happened to Gantz... loved it.

agreed, good to see someone else feel the same way about the ending. usually even people who love the show hate how it ends, couse its an open ending. as for how the show starts a bit slow, i liked it, it just gives the explovsiv second half of the show, that much more power. and i love the part were kurono takes out the hugh buddah's, iv gottn chills down my spine each time iv seen him finish of the last one hehe

I finished Gantz and it was'nt the best anime for sure, but it did have some okay moments. And I have heard that the manga is alot better, but seeing the anime is enough for me.
