Windows 7 and general bitching about OSes
Cloud20200:
I'm a recent Linux user, I finally broke out of the windows circle because I was just sick of the way microsoft are going, everything they currently make seems to take up more and more resources for no reason and it really gets on my nerves, I love the way ubuntu feels and how it feels safer and more reliable to use nevermind the fact its so much faster, I don't think I'll ever use another Windows OS because I only go on XP for games infact I don't even use the internet on windows, my wireless card is mostly disabled because why let everything update when I want to get everything out of my sempron 2400+ I can. I won't use vista cause its just the boy that cried wolf and will complain about everything, it looks horrible but that doesn't matter because I use windows classic anyway. I don't care about directX 10, honestly the only difference I've seen on screenshots is stuff like smoke. That is not enough to make me run it. As for linux I do everything else on ubuntu, I don't use wine apart from my portable apps when I'm installing them on my PSP memory card, also I've never run any other kind of linux cause I only tried it in November so freely offer an alternative.
Also you might be pleased to know iindigo, I'm 16 ;D

I recently went to ubuntu myself. The only problem I have that bothers me is the battery life. Not being able to set up the memory stick drive, hibernate not working, but standby working is also fine. Not being able to use both my graphics card (turbo cache) is ok too.
However, I'm really waiting for release version 9.04. I wouldn't mind grabbing a crap copy of XP to use either (I totally got rid of vista because it sucked and was killing stuff left right and centre.)

Like the drive it's installed on. :P
Gentoo is awesome, but you really need a decent internet connection for it to be worthwhile. Ubuntu is okay until you start wanting to use a lot of the Debian packages not in the Ubuntu repositories, at which point things start getting a little rocky.

If I can't get it in the repository, I install from source. It takes longer, but I may as well.
As for UI, I wish you could have at least three different GUIs. The "classic" and its themes, something "Mac-ish" and the Spartan Special.
Most importantly, I want to see an icon box. Xfce has one, I thing OSX does (I know the OSX-like dock I use does), and Aston (for XP) makes one that comes with its virtual desktop thing. I'm much better at picking out pictures then I am hunting for text on a task bar. Get rid of the text and make the icon larger.

The learning curve isn't too bad for ubuntu now. I actually like the way it is. You have to learn a little bit, but it's set up in a way where it's not too hard and you actually begin to understand at a deeper level how your OS works. (windows is more of a it works, it works. OSX is more, it works, just use it)
