Windows 7 and general bitching about OSes

Drew:
Yup. Hopefully Windows 8 will make full use of the public beta and we'll actually get a working OS on release this coming kernel cycle.

Spanks:
You guys seen the Win 7 launch party videos on youtube? You must watch them, they are so sad its funny.

Natheria:
That whole Windows 7 party idea was so lame, not even the most geeky Windows fanboys would think it was cool. Even the company who handled the party said it was a horrible marketing idea. It created many lulz though and i guess for that we must be grateful.

My Win7 Pro upgrade came in the other day.  Comes with 2 DVDs (32bit and 64bit versions).

But I haven't upgraded yet, since I need the time to back everything up.  Figuring out how to back up my virtual XPs.

How to Upgrade the Windows 7 RC to RTM (Final Release)

While that link says it won't upgrade straight from RC, my friend tells me differently.  He had RC1 installed and his Win7 upgrade allowed him to install straight from the original DVD without modifiying the cversion.ini file.  Backing up his old files and all.  And says it's running perfectly.

Installation doesn't ask for the XP/Vista serial number, only the one that comes included with the upgrade.  In otherwords, this upgrade doesn't require either XP or Vista, if already have Win 7 RC installed.  Even if it doesn't work straight from the original DVD as my friend says, can modify the cversion.ini file explained in the link above, as I also did to upgrade from beta to RC1.
