For me the most overated series are pokemon, dragonball z and yu-gi-oh. Underrated:Lupin III: Episode 0 'First Contact' (special), Blade of the immortal(i still can't find the series) and Sword of the stranger.

haruhi suzumiya is overrated. i'm not saying it's bad--it is very good. but not as good as fanbois claim it to be.

Xenore.... you need to watch more. Pick up some random titles, and watch them, that's what I did when I first started, and from then on you can pretty much tell watch you think is underrated or overrated.

Well i have seen "many" anime(there is no end for watching anime) i have watched series and movies that are not very popular like

Akira is one of the few I thought was overrated. Even when I first saw it in the 90's, I was like ok this is cool, but why is everyone going nuts about it, bigger question is, why do people still go nuts over it?

Naruto (the anime) is also overrated. The hype was deserved when the show first came out, and for the first 60-70 or so eps. But now it's blah and fillers.

Underrated, well a few months ago I would have said Nodame Cantabile. But it seems like it's getting well deserved attention lately.

Now this is going to sound crazy, but Lucky Star is somewhat underrated to me. The people who see it, love it. But the problem is, most people can't get through the first ep of basically nothing + a little character development and thus bash it. I never bashed it myself, but I had to force myself to watch the first 3 eps and as I watched more and more eps I got used to the style, dialogue and non stop talking which seems to be the turn-off. And rightly so, if it wasn't for fanboys praising it, I probably would have stopped after the first ep. It has now become one of my favorites.

Ichigo Mashimaro seems a bit underrated to me too. I could be biased, because I think the show is hilarious, but I never see many recommendations or chatter about it.

Hyakko is seriously underrated. Alot of people criticize the show and say is not funny but I enjoy every episode. I can't find much wrong with it.

Overrated?
Full Metal Panic, boring, weak, little character development and aimed at an audience that is obviously DBZ fans.

Mai Hime, well, it's just meh.

Underrated:
Shinigami no Ballad, awesome quick series, very enjoyable and almost deep in meaning.
Texhnolyze, it's just great after the first four eps, great pace and story.

Overrated

Code Geass - It's probably worshiped even more than Haruhi, yet by the end of the first season I couldn't stand the overblown, cheesy melodrama.

School Rumble - I couldn't see how this show was funny, certainly not enough to justify 54 episodes.

FMA - has the same problem as Code Geass, but significantly magnified.

Underrated

I second Ichigo Mashimaro. It's utterly hilarious without relying on the sight gags and violent slapstick of the vast majority of anime comedies.

Haibane Renmei and Kino no Tabi are dismissed way too often for being 'boring' and vague, especially Haibane.

For a show dropped by its top fansub group, Toradora! is great and getting better each week.

I was talking about the 4chan /g/... But their anime recommendations are pretty good, they only like to troll things related to technology...

I don't know who's rating things but anyways, for underrated

The aforementioned Kino no Tabi and Heibane Renmei, theres a lot more there there than with most anime, and that shouldn't count against it.

King of Bandits Jing, for it's aesthetics and whimsical plot.

Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora - for being deeply touching without the feeling that I was being manipulated.

Shingu: Secret of Stellar Wars - for being an unpretentious, happy-go-lucky version of Evangelion.

There are probably more, but I can't recall right now.

I dunno if it's just me, but I never hear anything about Nanoha, which is kinda sad considering how great it is. With it being one of the only 52 episodes series's I've liked enough to finish, it's surprising.

Also, Kodomo no Jikan. Whenever it's brought up, everyone seems to hate it for being nothing but pedo comedy. People just need to sit down, finish it, and then judge it, some of the last episodes almost made me cry.

Very funny series, very touching and sad.
People get turned off by the description and never give it a chance.
Kodomo no Jikan
Again, people get too caught up in the loli factor to realize the powerful
hidden meaning behind the series. Very sad anime, yet funny at the same time.

I agree with you on this one lol. I started watch Nanoha after hearing it was spinoff of Triangle Hearts. I was only "slightly disappointed" when it turned into something totally different. I was hooked after a few episodes.

Another series I think is underrated or rather forgotten nowadays is The Legend of the Galactic Heroes. It touches on so many important issues that is worth discussing. The drawing is very crisp and sharp and the story is just amazing. Plenty of sad scenes for the romance people and gory scenes of battle lol. I hope with Tytania's popularity more ppl will watch it.

Overrated: Fate/stay night. It is not bad but I personally felt the anime took the weakest of the 3 main routes from the game. UBW and HF Q.Q
Underrated: Tsukihime and especially: Kara no Kyoukai movies. Makes no sense why ppl like FateStay but stays away from these two titles. Better story than Fate plot line and the movies are just amazing, graphically and story wise.

So true lol, some descriptions are extremely misleading since they are possibly written with only a few episodes watched. I rather like anime bloggers that give somewhat detailed background without spoilers. And ppl should have a more open mind heh! Another example: Koi Kaze >.>

Um.... At the time gg very publicly dropped it a few episodes in, that was the only decent group doing it. AniYoshi picked it up, so no worries there.
