his face might have the right shape, but he looks a lot older than batou.  When it comes to anime IRL though you probably just have to go with something similar rather than the same.

I could see Perlman doing Batou, actually, he's got the build for it. His voice might even fit.

Same here. Plus, he does look similar, with a bit of makeup and a haircut he'd be perfect, IMHO.

If Perlman plays Batou right, it may not be complete crap.

Heh, I still think they might get Milla Jovovich to do the Major... because Western studios have no idea how to portray her. My opinion of how they'll cast Milla as Motoko: Hmm... she's done purple hair. She's done guns, she's done martial arts. PERFECT.

Didn't Milla Jovovich like, single handedly ruin Ultra Violet?

Well, she had help, but she was the Jenga piece that caused the tower to come crashing down.

I don't care who they cast for any movie ever made from any anime. it will still suck.

LOL sorry I could have worded it better.
I mean to say that live action movies that are based of specific anime will suck.
but that's just my opinion. maybe the new DB movie will blow our socks off ::)

what hes trying to say in perhaps simpler terms is.

FILMS BASED ON MANGA/ANIME WILL ALWAYS SUCK A BAG OF DICKS IN HIS OPINION REGARDLESS OF WHO MAKES AND STARS IN THEM

Well, IMHO she was great in the 5th Element, so I wouldn't rule her out completely.

To be honest, I have no idea who could play the Major... I just can't picture anyone.

BTW. who would you cast as Togusa?

If it was up to me, I'd have Uma Thurman play the Major. The idea isn't to get a character that looks exactly what's in the anime, but someone who can effectively understand and portray the character.

I might have Keanu Reeves as Togusa. Togusa always seemed like a bland kind of guy who wasn't interested in much of anything other than tracking down criminals the hard way.

I don't know who I would cast for Batou, that's kind of a toughie. I don't know of too many actors who have a huge build and can act effectively. I guess the main thing is that you get a guy who can express unrequited love but also looks like he was in the military before. idk.

I'd have either Patrick Stewart or Ian Holm as the old guy...what's his name...I forget.

Just for kicks, though, I'd do something upsetting to most anime fans and make the sniper a woman. I'm thinking...Allison Mack?

Mark Wahlberg or Matt Damon as Togusa? What about that Hagrid guy playing Batou?

HAHA! Saito as a woman! Brilliant! And make Paz gay! Boma dies trying to defuse a bomb! Aramaki gets assassinated! And the Prime Minister is Motoko's lover! No offense intended, just making light of the situation. But just imagine the fans if any of the above happens.

Well you've got to admit, the majority of live action movies where they're tried to stay true to the material...well, it's sucked.

Absolutely true. Though look what they did to DB: Evo and it'll still suck.
