I like the new battle system more than in FFXII, it isn't only similar, it was revamped, I understand it's similar in XIII?
Quick time events aren't my favorites, but they were pretty much disable-able in some of S-E games in the past with some items or settings in options. They often distract from the battle itself, I liked how I could use "A" in summoning in FF8 but didn't need to use it to progress battles (even though attacks later on were pretty devastating, but near the end of the game 9999 max damage from most Summons wasn't very boost-needing, so I think Quick Time events should never be necessary to progress the game, only to boost or help players, but not needed to complete a battle, cuz from what I can see there is no way you can beat Atlas without using successful QT events cuz from I heard you will simply die.

The fact that there are multiple endings in the game kind of sounds weird, as a matter of fact, if Lightning really is alive but can't do anything there are probably Normal/bad/good/best/worst/neutral endings in which some things happen and some don't, probably in the best ending Lightning will miraculously return or something like that so it's not fairly surprising, S-E is known for this setup, they did the same thing in FFX-2, The game is interesting, but as I said, it's bad that so many good games are console exclusive, I know it's to piss of PC gamers and to make real gamers buy more hardware like the damned consoles and stuff, at the very least I have to say FFXIII was rather cheap, i expect the same from XIII-2, if you look at it, you have one console you have at least the same amount of games for it you could buy another console or two for the cash you spent on those games.

time to put a few coins in for the PS3 then, at this rate I'll play this game next year I think.

this.

i definitely agree with your post. It just seems like a continuation of FFX-2.
>character goes searching for MC who is "dead"
>complete certain elements in game MC doesnt come back/comes back.

I'm pretty disappointed in squeenix for their E3 showing. No news on Versus or KH3D. I don't understand how a company can be so blind to what their consumers want. It's obvious the majority of the people want Versus, a KH game on a main console, and a VII remake. However, they continue to push out XIII when many people did not enjoy the game.

Hopefully Squeenix has a better showing at TGS.

I don't mind Versus but I wish it didn't look like DMC Combat-wise, cuz All i see is FF going Hack and Slash instead of RPG turn based, and I so love turn based battles, transitions, backgrounds, music, abilities, In FFXII it was not very fun for me to play this way.

I like Job system in FFX-2, I could learn skills by fighting and getting Ability Points (AP) and I could change my Job from a grid I equipped, if I regretted not having a black mage job in the grid my bad luck usually caught to me, also, Black magic recently is very limited, I think they lack the old ideas, I remember a black mage in the old times had around 20 spells to chose from, in recent FFs it's very limited, and since FFXI it doesn't even look good spell effect wise.

I still prefer spell system from FFVI-FFVII because it was excellent, if not the best ever in Final Fantasy games, I still remember the first time I used Quake/Ice/Fire/Bolt2-3 on all enemies, that surprised me a lot and was pretty impressive, Comet2 was also very impressive, I so loved Meteor Spell from FF8 when I gave Rinoa that spell as the only spell she could use in her Sorceress state, when I boosted her Magic to 255 it was pain and destruction in the pure essence, I didn't do anything else in the fight, i let Rinoa use her limit and then just stood there casting recovery spells and haste on Rinoa.

Spell effects look nice and flashy, but they lack spirit that was present in FFs before FFX, in FFX I only liked Fira, cuz that was the best looking spell in the game, Overdrives were meh :P

alright, im confused. have you ever played XIII?

judging from your post on this page, im getting a mixed read.

"XIII was cheap" by cheap do you mean the actual price fall within a month/or cheap by a standards defintion
"pitch in some money to get a PS3"

or did you play XIII on an emulator?

alright, well if you enjoyed the battle system of the classic FF games, im not sure if youre going to enjoy the battle system for XIII.
all the criticisms are true. the gameplay is too linear, and besides, you only get to control 1 party member which limits your skillsets for the first 30-40h. Although it does start to open a bit.

What XIII-2 needs is the ability to switch your party leader in the middle of battle. That'd be sweet. or just completely revert to the battle system in X-2. that was my favorite gameplay for any recent FF game that comes to mind

FFX did have a nice combat system but the old school ones are the best. The more I see new FFs with different battle systems the more I grieve over the great franchise dying out. Really interesting, deep and long stories in Final Fantasy stopped at FF7, FF9 was fairly interesting but it's doable in 12 hours !

Where are all the great games that kept you going and going without actually farming for levels ? those stopped at FF7, in FF8 all you had to do is just hit 1000 XP, doable in a single battle with LEVELUP skill on monsters (Wish Omega Weapon was level 255, that way it could be a challenge)

I personally hate the idea of dmg.Break allowing you to deal more than 9999 damage, makes the game so much easier, leaving the fun of hard battles and uneven chances out. HP limit also should be at 9999 and not 50.000 like in FFX :P (In FFX-2 I got Yuna to 25301 HP in Mascot and maximum damage I dealt was 34k)

These days we are enjoying a game that mainly looks good, but doesn't really offer any challenge, the only thing that can get us into a fighting spirit are quick time events, if it wasn't for them, modern games would likely not be popular at all.

Havoc go purchase a PS3 and get the game. Or get it on the 360 and suck up the awful graphics.

My worries right now is what they're going to do with the game. Are they going to cut back on MORE content because of the 360? You guys realize that they did cut off a huge chunck of the original game (most of it which revolves around Lightning's home) and they didn't bother to give us Japanese sounds. I'm so pissed off -sigh-. So I'm still looking forward to XIII-2 but god knows how they're going to do it. Versus XIII shouldn't be a disappointment.

Besides, I'll buy a PS3 eventually, just dunno when, and I don't plan on 360 cuz that is just a piece of dog shit.

oh wow, you didnt enjoy the story of X? X-2 was awful, but i felt the story in X was at least top 3 of the FF franchise (ive played V-XIII)

yes, the battle system has seemed to have gotten easier for the FF franchise over the past few years because they want to try and appeal to a wider audience. but, theyre still enjoyable.

I agree with tatsu that versus will give life to the desperate FF franchise though. it just looks so amazing and apparently every part of the setting is interactive during a fight.

Story in X was very short, without the side quests it would be incredibly boring, I don't say the story itself is boring, trying to help a princess (so to say) and in the end saving her life yourself is probably the most heroic thing to do, an adventurer's dream.

FFXII Story was also very interesting, however re-used it gets, resistance is always a good thing, even in good times you need an active opposition, Ashe was a very interesting character, there were a lot of secret stories in the main and some of the unveiled secrets in the main story was kind of surprising, I always was a fan of the world in Ivalice, be it FFT specced of FFTA, it's a great place, and should be given more thought as a new-type tech engineered, powered up version of Ivalice job systems with all it's glory of summons and other stuff, Imagine only another adventure in Ivalice with all the great and advanced graphics and the old battle system designed especially for a tactical game.

I'm pretty much disappointed in how you guys love the battle system presented since FFXII, those games are only Final Fantasy by names, nothing else is anything like FF anymore, it would be better to stop the FF games after FFXII and start a new type of games.

Btw, that guy in FFXIII-2 reminds me of Sora from Kingdom Hearts.

The new FFs are just usurpers of old reputation, and are ruining it.

The last good FF that made me want to do everything in the game was FF9. Yes, you can literally beat the game in less than 12 hours (because of that Excaliber II weapon quest), but I never actually did it. Everytime I play the game, I had so much fun doing the side quests that I never get it done in 12 hours. The chocobo side quest, albeit annoying at times when you just peck for an hour for all chocographs, was fun to actually try to find them in the world.

The part of FF9 that sucked was the card game  :-X

Anyhow, my point being, beyond that game, I never felt inclined to finish every quest in the following games. FF13 was the first FF game that I did not even TRY to attempt to finish the side quests. That's how bad they were. Plus the main story was so disorganized and, quite frankly, uninteresting, that I didn't want to spend anymore time playing it after I finished it. There was nothing from the game that compelled me to explore the world, because there was no exploration to be had. Every area was reused and with the lack of towns and any REAL dungeon, there wasn't anything to do.

When I heard that they were doing a sequel for this game, I just picked up a shovel and started helping Square finish digging their grave. Unless if they hire on some genius story tellers that can pull this world from the cellar up into a better than average story with some real emotional attachments, then maybe I'll drop that shovel and start gaining some hope. (effin Hope, I hate that kid, he needs to get kicked in the balls).

I played FFX only once, after that it was a pain to even start, not because I knew the ending, but because the game story is overhyped and short, but when your chars are stat maxed and beat Dark Aeons quite easily there is nothing you can do, and I didn't farm much, it was all just a good planning sequence, though have to admit, seeing Lulu beat the shit out of mobs with a cactuar doll was frigging hilarious :D

Final Fantasy XIII’s fiction “too big” for just one game. You could have added the Japanese sound track. You could have made another BD disc ... but well, it's your fuck up. Not ours.

I agree. The card game in VIII was much more accessible than the one in IX, I've completed it several times, and I still don't know exactly how it works. Then again card games in VIII pretty much becomes a matter of luck as you try to win Guardian Force and Character cards since you pick up so many annoying rules.

Side quests in X were really good. Blitzhball was epic though it becomes much easier as you learn more moves.

Did people at Sqaure Enix change or did the good developers quit/retire? It doesn't seem like the same company that made awesome games (VII, VIII, IX) back in the Playstation era.

Those were Square Soft. Including VI as well (should play it if you haven't). Then they formed up with the shitty Enix and became Square Enix and ever since FFX they haven't hit a good FF yet.

Ah, you are right. Well, those creative people from Soft must be long gone. They still release decent games (6/10 or 7/10), but nothing like the usual Final Fantasy standard.

If this one delivers on exploration and interactivity with the NPCs, then I'll definitely pick it up to see if its better than its counter-part. However, like with Tomb Raider, I'm not holding my breath only because I don't trust Squeenix to create a good game anymore.
