FF VII [Series] + FF XIII + FF XIII-2 + FF XIII-3 + FF XV

oh wow, you didnt enjoy the story of X? X-2 was awful, but i felt the story in X was at least top 3 of the FF franchise (ive played V-XIII)
yes, the battle system has seemed to have gotten easier for the FF franchise over the past few years because they want to try and appeal to a wider audience. but, theyre still enjoyable.
I agree with tatsu that versus will give life to the desperate FF franchise though. it just looks so amazing and apparently every part of the setting is interactive during a fight.

Story in X was very short, without the side quests it would be incredibly boring, I don't say the story itself is boring, trying to help a princess (so to say) and in the end saving her life yourself is probably the most heroic thing to do, an adventurer's dream.
FFXII Story was also very interesting, however re-used it gets, resistance is always a good thing, even in good times you need an active opposition, Ashe was a very interesting character, there were a lot of secret stories in the main and some of the unveiled secrets in the main story was kind of surprising, I always was a fan of the world in Ivalice, be it FFT specced of FFTA, it's a great place, and should be given more thought as a new-type tech engineered, powered up version of Ivalice job systems with all it's glory of summons and other stuff, Imagine only another adventure in Ivalice with all the great and advanced graphics and the old battle system designed especially for a tactical game.
I'm pretty much disappointed in how you guys love the battle system presented since FFXII, those games are only Final Fantasy by names, nothing else is anything like FF anymore, it would be better to stop the FF games after FFXII and start a new type of games.
Btw, that guy in FFXIII-2 reminds me of Sora from Kingdom Hearts.
The new FFs are just usurpers of old reputation, and are ruining it.

The last good FF that made me want to do everything in the game was FF9. Yes, you can literally beat the game in less than 12 hours (because of that Excaliber II weapon quest), but I never actually did it. Everytime I play the game, I had so much fun doing the side quests that I never get it done in 12 hours. The chocobo side quest, albeit annoying at times when you just peck for an hour for all chocographs, was fun to actually try to find them in the world.
The part of FF9 that sucked was the card game :-X
Anyhow, my point being, beyond that game, I never felt inclined to finish every quest in the following games. FF13 was the first FF game that I did not even TRY to attempt to finish the side quests. That's how bad they were. Plus the main story was so disorganized and, quite frankly, uninteresting, that I didn't want to spend anymore time playing it after I finished it. There was nothing from the game that compelled me to explore the world, because there was no exploration to be had. Every area was reused and with the lack of towns and any REAL dungeon, there wasn't anything to do.
When I heard that they were doing a sequel for this game, I just picked up a shovel and started helping Square finish digging their grave. Unless if they hire on some genius story tellers that can pull this world from the cellar up into a better than average story with some real emotional attachments, then maybe I'll drop that shovel and start gaining some hope. (effin Hope, I hate that kid, he needs to get kicked in the balls).

I played FFX only once, after that it was a pain to even start, not because I knew the ending, but because the game story is overhyped and short, but when your chars are stat maxed and beat Dark Aeons quite easily there is nothing you can do, and I didn't farm much, it was all just a good planning sequence, though have to admit, seeing Lulu beat the shit out of mobs with a cactuar doll was frigging hilarious :D
Tatsujin:
Final Fantasy XIII’s fiction “too big” for just one game. You could have added the Japanese sound track. You could have made another BD disc ... but well, it's your fuck up. Not ours.
