FF13 looks nice and has a nice story from what I read on so far, but other than characters and story, it doesn't really have much to offer in interesting combat, since FFXII SE is trying hard to make an interesting combat but fails on the simply stuff they were doing up till FF9 in combat style, and the only interesting thing was in FFX-2 with the changing class in-battle and anything afterwards started to be cheap.
Wait, let me get this right. You're commenting on a game you haven't even played yet? Seriously, aren't there enough threads in this forum where you're actually able to reign in with a rightful opinion?
If he's done research on the game like reading reviews and watching videos, why not?  If those things didn't actually inform people on the game, then they wouldn't exist.

...What?  You can't really believe that?  Any FF game before 8 has tougher regular opponents than 13..

No, it's true. Times I've died during regular gameplay against regular opponents in FF1-12? A handful of times at most. Number of times I've died against those damn Long Gui's? probably close to 50. I speak from experience :P If we're talking optional bosses/bosses... then that's a different story.

I will continue to buy all Final Fantasy games faithfully though. They're pretty much the only games I play... and I've only been disappointed once in FFXII :P Other than that, I've been pleased.

Plus, in modern world, with current state of shitty games in the market, who buys a cat in a bag ?
I research every game I buy, or don't buy. Some I don't even play. Internet is a very powerful tool, and Youtube is there filled with plenty of video on everything, starting from intro movie through cutscenes to the combat videos and the endings.

Technically you don't even need to play any game as long as you can watch many videos from it and make your opinion based on your observations. Face it, the world moves on, you should step ahead or you are going to be left behind.

Then you look like an ignorant fool when attempting to discuss a game you've never played with those that have played.

Maybe I am an ignorant fool, for having the same knowledge about the game as you who did play the game. And having a different opinion about it.

The main character is the one with the spikiest hair, there will be long and boring cinematics, the game will be picturesque with many bright colours, it will still have a shitty levelling system and the story will be extremely linear.

I believe that was the description for pretty much every Final Fantasy game out there today and future ones. After all SquareEnix is infamous for going stale with their FF games and instead of coming with fresh ideas for new games, are just milking the same old cow.
For one thing, Tiff is not on any level what I would call a typical American.  She's not what I would consider a typical person.  I don't know any other genius geneticist anime-fan martial artist marksman model-level beauties, do you?

That can be said about most game devs these days, to be honest. I mean seriously, look at EA and all their games for crying out loud. The only thing preventing BioWare from going on that same chopping block for me is the fact they make some interesting stories. Doesn't mean the gameplay is all that new or innovative.

I've discussed time in and time out with many people about the influx of crappy games and how it looks like it did in the late 70s to early 80s before the video game crash. Take a moment to go walking into a Game Stop or Best Buy, walk over to the Wii or DS section in particular. How many games can you count that is related to some TV Show or lame Celebrity. Seriously, who buys a game made after the Olsen Twins? Who plays a Pony Game on the DS? Before anyone says that a 6 year old girl does, I would task you to go find one. Bet you a million bucks you can't.
There's nothing here, because I'm too lazy to put something here.

I actually can :)
want my million bucks now :)
My neighbour daughter's playing the pony shits on PC and wii :P

Although I also said it a lot recently, there are so many crap games it's hard to play anything reasonable, if it's not a decent MMO then finding a decent single player game is near-impossible. There is too much competition into who makes the prettiest game, instead of who makes the most interesting one.

Game ratings on the websites are not helping either. And that is why most games I do play are either ME/DA or some games on PS2. I just remembered I would add another game to my PS3 empire, Ar Tonelico 3. Love that series and the gameplay is decent.

The entire video game industry gave up making good games around 2008 when they realized they can pump out mediocre games for cheap that millions will buy because of the general social acceptance of video games as a form of entertainment.

But there are good games out or coming out, just the number has reduced. Better swerve back on topic

So XII-2 is coming out January before Versus which will be some time next century? The game-play of versus doesn't look too bad, what does everyone else think?

I will give the developers the benefit that games take more time to make them visually appealing because of our high standards.

I wish I was only amused by those high standards you speak of, Mine must be really low since I have been playing pre-2004 games recently :)
PSX/PS2/Snes/GBA/x386 old games for PC :)

At the very least I have been enjoying their stories while not looking at their visual appeal.

If modern games developers took as much effort they have given to visual appeal into story making and combat style. We would have been more entertained than ever.

I stand corrected  :o

To answer the question brought forth about versus, honestly I don't care about versus in general. It sounds like another game that Squeenix is slapping the Final Fantasy name onto to squeeze as much money as they can out of it. I'll wait until after release to see how many people actually play it before I get any interest into it.

Well, i'll wait till the entire game is on youtube (story) and see if all the hype was actually worth it, i already know gameplay is having only as much in common with Final Fantasy as the names of spells and some abilities and weapons were in the Final Fantasy franchise, and maybe Shinra name appears again.

Sure, I don't disagree with the fact that you can watch a lot of videos and form your own opinion out of that. It's a pointless/incomplete opinion though, some things can't be discovered/felt until the day you sit down with the game and try it out. Is that fun? Could that be done better? Why is this great?

Face it, the world moves on, you should step ahead or you are going to be left behind.
I've left me speechless, Mr. Havock. I don't even know what to say to this.

Exactly. Until you've actually played the game, all you can say it stuff like "that game looks great" or "the combat looks cool"... you can't say that it is. Huge difference. You'll never see me discuss or talk shit about a game unless I've played it at length.

I was looking at how my friend who owns the game for his shitbox played it. I didn't want to play it myself, I don't want to soil my hands with a shitbox. I suffer greatly needing to sell it to idiots. I saw the combat at an advanced level first hand, and visual effects are really nice, but that is it. SE should put more work on having a real Final Fantasy game soon.

FFXIII-2 cinematic shows epic Lightning-Caius fight in Valhalla.

Sweet. I loved the full trailer too! It got me so excited that I pre-ordered the special edition on the spot. Only like... 9 weeks away! The game looks seriously amazing.

Urgh .... this article pisses me off a bit:

FFXIII’s “conspicuous” platform disparity reduced for FFXIII-2. Are we going to lower the settings for the game to make it "matching" with the 360 version, Square Enix? Don't fuck it up please. Also, they did admit they had issues with the 360 version when they were denying the fact that it was getting delayed (besides chopping off scenes and events, too).
