As commented on VG247:

Guess I should just pull myself by the neck and finish XIII and XIII-2. I haven’t tried XIII-2 yet (other than a demo), but for XIII I managed to play 20+ hours before losing my save to a format. My own fault. Just hard as hell to motivate myself to spending so much time again.

It sounds like they’ll be doing a bit of Versus XIII stuff like the day and night cycle. Somehow I am not expecting Versus XIII in 2013 now. I just feel it would be too much to release both in the same year. They’d have a grand year though.

The fact that it’s the last entry also kinda makes up for “another game before Versus XIII.”

I get this feeling that this is more like a fanservice for Lightnings fans than an actual XIII-story driven game.

Want to bet it can be finished in less than 10 hours ?
I'm gonna wait for the game's release and the actual content. Maybe in a few years, if I still live, the game will come out.

S-E likes to announce stuff, but they are not fond of doing anything on time.

Where you going?

Well, weren't XIII-2's ending pretty much open for another game? I see the XIII franchise as being a safe bet other than risking another project like Versus XIII. If Square Enix' sales on XIII-3 makes it more possible for Versus XIII to arrive then I am totally okay with it. Just like Ubisoft mentioned that the sales of AC: Brotherhood and AC: Revalations made AC: III possible.

@ Takeshi ~

Don't worry ... I haven't even put FF XIII into the Xbox ... I'm really behind on gaming ... I just don't feel like sitting infront of the TV to play it.

I was a Lightning fan in part because of the lack of fanservice. But then, I'm an easy convert when it comes to female protagonists who aren't projections of male sexual fantasies.

I like the idea of a Doomsday clock, if they could do it like Majora's Mask, or just make it damn hard to actually win unless you've got good time management skills, I would be happy. There are few things in video games as tension building as a timer.

Personally think it looks ugly as hell, I'd rather just play the original game.

yeah but look at the movie scenes :)

I would prefer those over the original :)

Although this shows how hard it would be to completely re-make the engine for full HD graphics.
It's not impossible, it's simply not affordable. If they did it, the game would cost around 80$ and weigh around 20 gigs.

It would open a way to increase the number of items and side quests, along with many other improvements, but they probably can't even afford a complete true re-make.

I'm glad for the re-release though :)

Not sure if it's been posted yet: http://gematsu.com/2012/09/final-fantasy-versus-xiii-to-miss-tokyo-game-show

Well, I hope the reason we're not seeing anything yet is because they're hard at work. Lighting Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is probably going to be released in 2013. Are we gonna have to wait for 2014 for Versus then? It might be too much to have two big Final Fantasy games in the same year, and Versus could probably use the extra year for a release in February-March since that seems to be their preferred release months. Of course, referring to the two games' international release. Final Fantasy XIV looks like it's coming in Q1 in 2013 so maybe they will wait until summer since that's usually pretty empty.

FFXIII-3 will be released in first half of 2013, that's for sure. As for Versus XIII, it's actually in development. They're keeping a strong hush on it as stated by Julien Merceron (CTO). They've also stated more news will be revealed starting in 2013 so yes we won't see this game until 2014 or 2015.

All I gotta say is they better make this one hell of a freaking game. Just for giggles, it would be awesome if they filled dual-layer 3 blu-ray disks for this game. Lol.

I can't imagine Squenix localizing a PSP game now. They'd almost certainly have to retool it for another platform (Vita, cell phones) before bothering with a Western release this late after it's release.

Someone elaborate me without spoiling the story on FFXIII-2 - I want to unlock Lightning and I hear there are two different versions of her (RAV and COM). Both are only part of DLC - is it two separate DLC's? What are the benefits? How do you unlock them? Google sucks at this and though I have the Collector's Guide, I don't want to run into spoilers since it warned me.

The game so far is pretty good, there are some parts I wish they didn't let go of from the original FFXIII...

Like what?

I still haven't picked XIII up again after I re-formatted my entire PS3 by mistake. 40+ hours out of the window. :(

Read below:
(click to show/hide)

Everything else thou' is pretty good, and surprisingly the story is pretty good in XIII-2. The audio format is also in DTS for the PS3 game. Battles are very fast and I like that. I like the world system too and how you can reset each area to re-do it and get all items or live triggers, fragments, etc - whatever you missed besides the main story. You don't need to replay the whole game so that's good.

That's it for now, gonna head to sleep.

Edit -- Lightning is not a playable character in XIII-2 is just BAD ADVERTISEMENT when they freaking have pictures of Lightning across the freaking box and advertisement. They should have put Sarah and Noel instead. It's even been criticized. FU SE!

That's right. Lightning essentially plays second fiddle in XIII-2.

Mother fucking shit SE is getting retardedly bad at creating outfits for characters. Lightning Returns Final Fantasy 13: Famitsu scan reveals redesigned Lightning. I raged down in the comments.
