Macross vs. Gundam
risbo:
To me Macross Frontier is one of the best mecha anime...and the music is great...Gundam is more fighting and no love triangle... ::)

Sounds like a compliment to me. :-\

Like I said earlier, Gundam is like.... well... Gundam!! Its there, its all there is to it, it has always been Gundam,
and everyone goes around saying "I am GUNDAM!!".

Nikkoru:
The more I think about the more I think it's an apples and oranges type question - aside from the essential mecha concept, there aren't that many parallels between the two, more to the point, they don't seem to be trying to imitate one another and can be enjoyed in entirely different ways.
Arguing realism in either seems stupid, I have to say. Gundam bends reality for the reason SF usually does, to make an analogy to the present, and far more simply because it's necessary to separate it from the present. Macross bends reality largely for stylistic reasons, it's an opera and an epic love story first and foremost, the SF elements exists to enable that.
I'm being generous when I say "bend".
