Dont kno really.. I grew up on Macross, even had alot of the toys when I was a kid.. I like everything about Macross, even in the cheese areas as people say.. True Gundam has a typical better story but I just cant stand how the mechs look, no sex appeal at all... Where as in Macross the mechs more or less fit the pilot or became one with the pilot..

I always luv'd this one as I race bikes for almost 8 years..

Reki
i know that series but cant cant think of the name of hand- it was supposed to be part of the robotech series but it was canceled because it was to much about girls and not enough mechs

Edit: Mega zone 23  thats what it was - part of Robotech: the Untold Story movie that bombed bigtime

I know that bike! It's from Robotech New Generation. Although it may have appeared in other Macross series that I still haven't watched yet.

The original show the bikes were from is Genesis Climber MOSPEADA, which was redubbed as the New Generation of Robotech.  I always liked the mecha designs from MOSPEADA.  You won't find 'em in any of the original Japanese Macross shows.
It took an hour to write; I figured it'd take an hour to read.

Ahhh... figured it was from something else. Good to know... must watch it now :P

Honestly, New Generation was pretty well done. Had solid animation with decent dubs. It wasn't not nearly as bad as the rest of the Robotech saga.

Personally, I can't hate on the show that got me interested in anime in the first place.   :D

My problem with Robotech comes from the fact that I know it is a bastardization of one of the best Mecha Anime ever that being Macross.  I have no first hand experience of the other two series that are used or really Robotech for that matter.  I just can't get myself into it knowing that it is what it is.

SH*T. F**K. F***ing HELL!!!1!!!1!11ELEVENTYONE.

Then again, their bastardising their own franchise. If they tried to do SDF Macross, I'd be more pissed off. And truth be told, it is very much in the Hollywood 'style'. There's romance, CG, explosions, and aliens. Perfect combo!

Let's not forget the music.

Every time I see another reminder of GITS, Akira, or Robotech being made into movies I fall into despair - the worst thing of all is I secretly hold hope for them, even if I expect my hopes to be dashed, I still can't help it.

I know what you mean. I was dreading the release of Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles, but at the same time I was anxious... so I could find out what happened to everyone. Of course the movie was shit and I wasn't able to find out anything, but I still want closure.

I've come to the realization that it is futile to expect closure in an anime series.  I mean, how many shows have the love triangle that ends unresolved, or events just kind of stop and you never really get a chance to see how things turn out in the long run for the characters.

I suppose in American TV we do the same thing, but for some reason I don't get that emotionally invested in most characters on U.S. shows.

As for Robotech, the McKinney novels have pretty decent closure, if you like the direction the authors took the storyline.  For R:TSC, I thought that there were licensing issues or some such over using the characters from the original shows, so it was probably too much to hope for to see most of the original character designs come back for the sequel.
It took an hour to write; I figured it'd take an hour to read.

its more the fact that the gundam much more imitates human body shape which simply doesnt work for MANY mechanical things.

And pretty much fails miserably on a large scale, which is why most people with gigantism fail because the bigger everything gets(besides the fact that the muscles and ligaments usually arent normal) the larger and longer things get with a human frame type build the more stress it puts on things and it pretty much fails horribly on large scale.
Still, IMHO nothing beats Battletech when it comes to scientific approach to mech design.

Anyway, discussing realism in a sci-fi series is kinda pointless... the setting needs to be internally consistent and that's it, IMHO.

Having said that, I prefer the Macross series. Mostly because of the music, but also because the setting is much more consistent and believable. I just don't buy the "I have a new prototype mecha and I pwns joo all!" approach frequently present in Gundam.

Having said that, I still think that "let's sing them a song to stop them from fighting" is ridiculous.

I know there are alot of robotech series but all i can seem to find when i go looking are ones in itlian can anyone help me or point me in the right direction?
If there is a single file with all the series in one that would be awsomeness but i know there are alot of different ones. Yes i dislike the idea of revamping macross but i have never really sat down and watched it..
Or.. What dvds do i need to get seeing as BBY is selling off all their anime. I truely know nothing of the series other then i hear harmy gold tore apart the orignal SDF-1
