What books would make great anime. (manga not included)

I think that most anime watchers have a vast reading pool.  Things like fantasy, Sci-fi, thrillers, horror, and or drama books that you think would be great as anime.  What would you like to see made into an anime that is not a manga.  List title and author because you might inspire someone to look it up and read something new.

David Eddings: The Belgariad story of a young man growing into unknown powers saving his world.
Eliabeth Haydon: Symphony of Ages kick ass, that simple.
Robert Jordan: Wheel of Time I'd like to see it after I find out how the story ends maybe.

I know that there are all kinds of licensing issues and copyright crap, but if all of that was taken care of and the Japanese invested a little more time into our literature what story would be you new kick ass anime. :o

Some people will kick me for this, but for a moment I felt Twilight would magically become a better thing if it was anime. Then I thought about it and realised we already have Vampire Knight... ::)

It's too bad Earthsea got such a disappointing treatment, because I had hopes for that one as an anime.

If Production IG did The Silmarillion, it might just kick ass.

When I first watched Mind Game, I was reminded of some of Haruki Murakami's novels, which I think would make great films if done in a similar style.

Until I found out about HBO's plans to do A Song of Ice and Fire, I thought anime would be the only way to get anywhere close to true to the source material.

Production is underway on the pilot.  No word on when it will air.  The plan is 7 seasons, but that's contingent on the success of the pilot.
