i think that any of the works by William Shakespeare would make some pretty kickass anime. especially Midsummer Night's Dream, Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, and Hamlet. the complex story lines mixed in with some humor and WTF moments would make the perfect anime.

They have made animes of several of these Shakespearian plays.  I just can't think of the name for them in Japanese right now, because it's been along day and I'm about to fall asleep.  Let me think about it and find them when I'm awake tomorrow.

There is a TV series for this book under the name of "Legend of the Seeker".  It's in the first season with 11 episodes aired so far.

I found it disappointing though.  After the first episode, it becomes WAAY too different from the book(s).  Turns me off to any idea of an anime adaptation.

That was also my point!!!  Those jackasses really ruined a great series with their bastardizing of this series.

Trudi Canavan's Ages of Five looks interesting I'll probably give it a read now after reading a snipet off Canavan's web site.  Thx

I know there have been variation using the premise, but I'd like to see an Alice in Wonderland anime

I think they could do more with the Lord of Flies novel, Infinite Ryvius was a cool attempt to play off the same themes but there is much more they could do.

Ghibli already made one Earthsea series book into a movie, I think they should do the whole thing.

Heart of Darkness would make an interesting anime as well, actually, Heart of Darkness makes an interesting anything.

Lord of the Flies would be good, but I think I'd end up /wrists while watching it. . .

Heart of Darkness as well.

*snip*

I saw the title and my head screamed The Silmarillion too. Especially with Production IG, though I wouldn't mind if Shinichiro Watanabe did it instead. He'd make a fun watch.
But I'd rather have it live action. Peter Jackson's epic Battle of Last Alliance scenes were pantsu-explosive enough for me to want him back, despite what he did to the LotR storyline.

As for ASIF.. HBO did Rome. 'Nuff said, I think--one of the only TV-type live actions shows that I would actually sit through and watch. That and Battlestar Galactica. Maybe.

Watchmen anime wouldn't be bad, if the movie flops, though the trailers make it look like it'll be pretty close to the original comic.

Madeleine L'engle's stuff wouldn't do so bad in an anime. Her books, especially the "Wrinkle In Time" series, are already plot-lined like a lot of animes--and C.S. Lewis' Chronicles Of Narnia.
Oh, Shinichiro Watanabe might do a good job with Silmarillion, though I believe in Kenji Kamiyama more for anime with an epic tone. I agree that it would look impressive as live action, but I feel if it were a mini-series it would be far better than a movie. There's just too much going on, and too many stories. Peter Jackson would probably try to put a romantic tone on things again... Now if Ridley Scott were called in (remember Kingdom of Heaven Director's cut?)... or perhaps Guillermo del Toro, it might be really good.

Garth Nix's Seventh Tower would be a good shounen anime, it's got tsundere girl and pretty useless guy as lead characters already.

I think, without a doubt, that the Farseer Trilogy would make a brilliant anime.

Amazing series and gets far too little talk about it when ever good books come up.

A little off the beaten trail, but I do believe that it would make an excellent drama anime.  Cool, I was hoping people would reach out this far in recommendations.

Romeo X Juliet is the only cross over into anime I found by Shakespeare, it was bought by FUNanimations.  I really thought someone had done A Summer's Midnight Dream, andMacBeth. Sorry my thoughts were a little ahead of my facts.

As long as Ridley Scott doesn't eff it up with some convoluted ending, and they keep the armor and weapon designs from LotR. Original Tolkien's ideas were chain and scalemail armors ):

F. Scott Fitzgerald's short stories could be more than enough for an episode each. They're pretty captivating and end with a wry tone.

Artemis Fowl as an anime? It just came to me this morning... We have magical girls/girls with guns, evil genius, monsters, etc.
EDIT: Jun Fukuyama as Artemis!

Ridley Scott doesn't usually make bad movies, just that the studios tend to screw up the editing and publicity. Kingdom of Heaven was really a damn fine movie, if more than a little historically skewed, but 20th Century Fox (I think) cut it into a love story, in the process excising almost an hour of it.

There are several Alice stories: Alice in Wonderland, Alice in Cyberland, and even Alice SOS.  I believe there are serveral others based on the Alice principal idea but somehow get lost in the translation.

Ghibli already made one Earthsea series book into a movie, I think they should do the whole thing.
That was not the book. They used two characters from the book, and based it loosely off what happened in the book, but that's it. The book was completely different.

Yeah, Ghibli really messed up on that one. Ursula LeGuin was reportedly quite unhappy about it.

Alice in S3xland anyone?

You know what I haven't seen is someone recommend a horror genre. I could see myself watching a Salem's Lot, The Stand, or IT by Steven King.  But only if they make the endings better than the current stories endings,King writes terrible endings for his stories.  AHHH better yet the Wasteland series would be fantastic.

William Gibson - Sprawl Trilogy (Neuromancer, Count Zero, Mona Lisa Overdrive).
Astrid Lindgren - Most of her book would make good ghibli movies, Miyazaki wanted to do one of them back before he started Ghibli but couldn't get he rights.
Memories are meant to fade. They're designed that way for a reason.

Aww... I just assumed I hadn't gotten to that book yet, that's kind of dissappointing.

The Golden Compass series would make a good anime, especially with the Japanese being far less sensitive to the religious context.

Seconded for Neuromancer, but not for CZ or MLO.

David Brin's entire Uplift series would make a really cool collection of anime series, with its well-defined collection of radically different genetically modified aliens and their various on-going feuds and alliances.

Forgive me if I'm wrong but I'm surprised no ones mentioned Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles?  Could see that being an interesting anime, also Steven kings dark tower series.
