That was not the book. They used two characters from the book, and based it loosely off what happened in the book, but that's it. The book was completely different.

Aww... I just assumed I hadn't gotten to that book yet, that's kind of dissappointing.

The Golden Compass series would make a good anime, especially with the Japanese being far less sensitive to the religious context.

Gibson's Idoru might be good.

David Brin's entire Uplift series would make a really cool collection of anime series, with its well-defined collection of radically different genetically modified aliens and their various on-going feuds and alliances.

Forgive me if I'm wrong but I'm surprised no ones mentioned Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles?  Could see that being an interesting anime, also Steven kings dark tower series.
