What books would make great anime. (manga not included)
beolach:
Orson Scott Card's Ender series. But OSC has emphatically said it'll never happen, it seems he's biased against anime. :-(
Bit of a tangent, but what western books *have made* great (or not so great) anime? In trying to introduce my sister to anime, I tried to have her watch Dear Daddy Long-Legs, which is based on one of her favorite books. I thought they did a fairly OK job adapting it, but my sister couldn't get over the main character appearing to be significantly younger than in the book, and didn't like it at all.
I've downloaded, but haven't gotten around to watching, The Diary of Anne Frank. Anyone know if they did a good job?

Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson
that would be very long great anime if done right :D

This would either REALLY suck as an anime or be completely awesome... The Dark Tower Series from Steven King (Truly the best modern author EVER!!!!!!!) I know Marvel did a comic series on it, but it's set years before the books.
Another book that would be a pretty interesting anime is The Hobbit. My reasoning is, unlike Token's other books (The Lord of the Rings and the Simarillion) The Hobbit is centered on more light hearted adventures, which i believe anime can capture very well.
Peggeh:
I would honestly love to see any of the Discworld books as an anime, if only because the madness that ensues would be on par with Hare+Guu and FLCL XD. Tolkien, Garth Nix (Abhorsen Trilogy) and Phillip Pullman may also be intriguing to see.
I can't help but wonder what Harry Potter would be like, but that may just be the Muggle in me ;D
But I can't help but feel that books should stay as books and manga and anime should stay as is, if only because I like to escape from Otaku-dom once in a while and return to geekiness in the Western World!

I understand the sentiment, and I believe that everyone has books that they love. The images that these books inspire are your alone to cherish. ::) But, there are stories that you do want to see and I believe that the anime of said stories would only heighten your experience and love gained from the viewing, if done correctly and not rushed. It definitely would allow you to fall in love with the story all over again and appreciate it from a new stand point adding to your original feeling created by the story.
just my thought on the matter.
