Eragon was Star Wars done as a medieval fantasy if I recall correctly.
I'm sorry, but I can't really see how Eragon relates to Star Wars...? Maybe I'm just stupid... =P

Another good book which could be made into an awesome anime would be, in my opinion, Twillight... I just love vampires! =P
The plot of the first book: Young man lives on a farm with his uncle since his parents are dead. He finds something secret in the wilderness. He meets an old man who gives him a sword. Said old man is a former member of an ancient organization tasked with protecting the world from evil. Members of this organization can use strange energies in strange ways. While there, his uncle's farmstead is burnt down by bad people. The young man leaves with the old man and learns how to fight, use strange energies and fly. They meet a dashing rogue. Assisted by said rogue, they go and rescue a princess who has been captured and is being interrogated in a dark fortress. As they are trying to escape, a bad guy leader comes along. Old man sacrifices himself so they can escape by flight. They arrive at the good guys' stronghold, where main character mopes for awhile then everyone prepares for the coming battle. In the ensuing battle, he uses strange energy to help him defeat a great evil. END.

What exactly am I talking about? Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. Sound familiar?

Speaking of Twilight... It's already been done. For angst, bishies and more angst, watch Vampire Knight.
Hmm, when you put it that way it certainly sounds a little like Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, but there's still there's some differences that makes Eragon unique enough, in my opinion... =)
Aww - I was just about to do that.

It's funny how incredibly blatant it is - I've heard from people who've read the series that Eragon's father was someone like Darth Vader too.
It seems like that at one point, but that's cetainly not it... =)

I've only seen the movie personally, and it has far too many coincidences between its self and Star Wars for them to be just similar - the writer is young though, so he can only get better.

The Chrysalids could make an interesting anime, although I would change it quite a bit to make it more interesting to the modern viewer.

Ya'know if you could do it like Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, Catch-22 by Joseph Hiller would make an awesome anime.

That would be f-ing outstanding.  I was also thinking about james Michner's novel The Drifters done dark like Serial Lain.  It's about some college kids and their experiences in Europe involving various things.  This was during the sixties.  You should read it if your going to college.

I just thought of what i think could be an awesome anime. Crime and punishment. I mean it would need to be changed a little bit to work as an anime but it has a lot of things going for it. Like the dark themes and the odd romance between raskolnikov and sonya. Of course it would need to be highly stylized and would probably take a highly skilled production team to pull it off.

Maybe one of China MiƩville's novels, like Perdido Street Station or The Scar? It's got steampunk, bizarrelty bizarre races (beetle-headed women and cactuspeople ayone?), brutal violence and in the case of the second one, definitely an epic plot.

I don't see the pressing need for another vampire anime anyways, it's not like you can argue that they've been under-represented in the field.

Nikkoru, obviously you don't see the need for another vampire anime.  The question is what would you like to see?  Twilight is not my first choice, probably not my second either but it does seem like a crowd favorite. ???  I would like to know what book would you like to see made into an anime and why.

Under-represented and being well-made are two very different things.

hmm i have been thinking about a few books:

The Davinci Code, would rock in anime.
the movie was straight fail, but in anime they can maybe get the vibe going.

The Holy Bible, would also make a good anime, Both the new and the old testament.

The Divine Comedy, by Dante ....

It wasn't pointless.... I just don't remember why I did that, but you can be rest assured that there was a point.  Yah there was a point.

I think that I too would like to see the Divine Comedy as an anime, and also using a similar title the book JOB a divine comedy of justice  I think it's from the early eighties, I thought it was a good read.  The main story has to do with the end of the world just after a guy finds his true love, and his pursuit through all the different religious mithos to find her.  No it's not Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE and if you read it you would probably agree with me.

They should make Aristophanes' Lysistrata into an anime, but shift the period to the Sengoku era or something. Har har.
It's about this woman who gathers all her fellow women and they all refuse to have sex with their husbands until the men stop fighting a useless war.

Not sure if it applies, since it already has an anime, but I would love to see the rest of the Twelve Kingdoms light novels turn into an anime. From the western world... I guess Terry Pratchett's Diskworld series, given enough time, money and effort could become a great series.

I've always thought Holly Black's work would be pretty well suited for fantasy anime. She pretty much writes young adult science fiction (except for the one young adult sci fi graphic novel). Thus far, they've all been faerie stories.

Actually Twilight reminded me a lot of an anime. Especially the movie (which I saw but paid little attention to, so you may disagree). But I think it could be turned into an anime but in its current form it would probably pretty average. IMO at least.

The Divine Comedy, by Dante ....

Yeah that could be a good one but they would need to take some creative liberties as right now it is very western and very entrenched in knowledge that the average person doesn't know.

For the love of god, please tell me they still teach reading in school

Yes but if you want real books you need to read on you own.

Also I'm currently debating if Candide would make a good anime... :-\

The myth of Theseus and the Minotaur would make an awesome 12 episode drama. Then they could make a semi-sequel with the tale of Icarus and Daedalus...
