The last 'real episode" was ep22. Ep23 was a bonus 'flashback' episode, and 24 is (as you said) a recap.

I like a solid ending that ties up everything (unless there's a sequel of course or manga extension). Prefer happy endings especially if done in either a spectacular or unexpected way. Cowboy Bebop is an exception but I would have liked to have seen more random episodes if it was going to end like that, felt too short because it was so good.
