Hyakko & Allison to Lillia
« on: February 23, 2009, 03:17:42 AM »
Finished Hyakko earlier this afternoon and I really enjoyed watching the anime. It was pretty good, really good. The first two episodes had their flaws (boring, awful animation and some colors) but it picked up fast and I liked it alot. There were those scenes were I laughed hard enough to pause and get my breaths back. Great show!

Now I'm on Allison to Lillia, it's actually building up pretty well. I'm on episode 6, somewhere along there ... Just have one minor problem with the anime, the god freaking darn cheesy music. Someone KILL the background cheesy music! It is very annoying. But anyways, time to get back and finish the rest of this episode and move along ...

I've only heard good things about Allison & Lillia, and from what I've heard, the way it develops in the end is original and not disappointing at all.  But haven't watch it yet. :P But I usually look up anything that MADHOUSE is associated with :)

Yeah, I must say it took me quite by surprise. I didn't find the first two eps as bad as you did, on the contrary I thought they made a fine introduction to the main four characters. Then it only got better from there. I love the massive cast of characters (as good as Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei IMO), and I found myself laughing madly (or at least chuckling perversely) almost every episode.

Maybe I'll give Allison to Lillia another chance.  The first three episodes were alright, but the fourth was so stupid that I wanted to throw the remote through the TV(Honestly, paintballs in a dogfight?).  I settled for deleting the whole series.  All in all much less destructive, and much less expensive than my knee jerk reaction would have been.

lol, yeah, I don't know how many shows I've deleted in a huff because something happened that made my brain cry.  But sometimes I've gone back and re-downloaded them, and regretted throwing it away in the first place.

Oh yea, I was so happy to know there was a pervert girl in the anime! I was really impressed and made me laugh alot. She's so pervert about everything! And she's a Bi-sexual too, haaaaaaaaaahahahaha haha! They've got a little of everything in the anime. I wonder if they're going to make a second season or an OVA. Torako is such a dork tho', ... well, beyond a dork!

Yeah, Nene is an awesome character! Torako's a dork? DUH. Really, though, she seems to be the driving force behind the show. Hooray for dorks! Suzume is automatic win and Tatsuki's tsundere side was more fun than I'd have expected. Aya Hirano's character was a bit bleh though.
I'm quite sure there'll be a second season, since we haven't even touched the younger characters.

Despite my being really new to the world of anime, I've already watched Yakitate!!! Japan 2 times now, and I fully intend on watching it again and again. It was the first show that really got me into anime (not counting the ones we all saw as kids like DBZ, Pokemon, etc).

Ah, you just popped your cherry! I see, I see. My first, and beloved one was Scrapped Princess and I've seen it a whole bunch of times, then Hajime no Ippo, only once tho'. And then I watched Kimi ga Nozomu Eien and I've seen that series about 20+ almost 25+ times, from start to finish.

Anyways, new banner and avatar. I'm just driven mad and been playing Cherry Blossom or whatever Japanese mini shooting game it was. Hmm ....

As for Torako, I meant it in a good way for being a dork! Hell yea she was the driving force behind the show! Nene's awesome too, I just love seeing something new in a show and that was definitely suprizing!

Hey Tatsujin, I love the matching avatars and sigs you've been doing lately, very stylish.

Koma was pretty fun too, and Torako's half-brother and sister look quite awesome.

ALLISON AND LILLIA IS MY NUM ONE FAV SERIES FTW!!1!one!1!!eleven!!11!

I loved the background music in the series. It did seem inappropriate in a few cases, but for the most part it added to the "epic" feel to the anime, as well as give it the steampunk feel.
I might have a bit of bias to music just because I'm fairly musically minded (engineers are fairly similarly minded to artists and musicians for those who didn't know) and I play in a band (sorry to disappoint, but its a marching band). I don't play orchestral music similar to the anime, but I do play a large selection of jazz.

For those of you who haven't seen it, check out my short, spoiler-free review in my blog.

Allison to Lillia is one of the best series I've seen! Wow, the beginning was way off at least for the first ten minutes or so but things just start to connect slowly, and it just builds ontop of other things and it keeps building up! This is an extraordinary anime, I'd very much recommend it to people. Yes, the music is some-what cheesy, but regardless, the whole anime is slated to be a memoriable series of all time! I wish it was a bit longer. There are still some missing things here and there, but I just wanna know! I wanna know!!!

Alright ... next anime.

Aaah honestly I really couldn't get into Allison to Lillia. I thought the premise was great, and the setting certainly was the prettiest I've seen since Haibane Renmei, but I just couldn't stand all those clichés and predictable plot twists.  :-\
I loved their idea of showing the story behind the meeting of the parents first, and then focus on the daughter's story, I thought it had potential for a lot of dramatic content! But sadly, the series wasn't built like a seinen, but pretty much a saturday morning cartoon. It's not a bad show if you can get past its predictability, but I know that I would have enjoyed it a lot more if I were 15 years younger. :P

Hyakko, on the other hand, was absolutely brilliant! Loved that show. At first, I also thought that the first 2 episodes were pretty weak, but damn that 3rd episode really changed my mind! And it was nothing but greatness after that.

I pretty much had the same reaction to Allison and Lillia.   Its fairly boring when halfway through the first episode of most of the 4-5 episode story arcs you know exactly where its going.  I was kinda surprised I managed to watch the whole thing.  I kept thinking it had to get better at some point, and then the ending came and it was like they tried to fit 12 different cliches into the ending just to annoy me further.

The whole thing kinda reminds me of Princess Bride, except that movie was making fun of itself and Allison and Lillia was seriously trying to be all the things that Princess Bride made fun of.

I don't know about you, but the most pretty setting I've ever seen in a series is, and probably will be for awhile, Seirei no Moribito. It was like watching 13 hours of Ghibli animation, an orgasm for the eyes.

I've been listening to the samples of the Hyakko OST on CDJapan, and all I can say is: HURRY UP NIPPONSEI, RIP IT ALREADY.
The OST is so over the top and, to tell the truth, so perfectly fitting for this show... I want it, and I would buy it, but it's expensive and there's shipping to think about.
Oh man, track 33 is the one that was playing in the second half of episode 6... The EPIC PART.

I ended up enjoying Allison to Lillia very much.

The anime would have been one of my favorites if only it:

The only REAL problem was that last one... which in general is a sense that they rushed the end.

I'd love to see another season of this (with a script that didn't require suspension of disbelief quite so often).

One thing I've always wondered about Allison to Lillia is, just what is Allison sending or doing to Lillia? Is it like that one movie, "From Justin to Kelly"?
