EF ~ A Tale of Memories/Melodies
Havoc10K:
mostly those are just cute ways of naming ppl, but there might be some meaning behind them as well, alongside of intimacy and feelings of ppl using those short names for others, Japanese ppl take it very seriously who is calling them how, for example, a person that doesn't like someone wil lnever allow that person to call him/her by first name, and most probably will force to use -san/-senpai etc as honorific.
as for Kanon, you might first go watch classic Kanon and then 2006, but halfway go grab tissues ;]

Oh, I understood the honorifics very well. That's not a problem to me. ef is one of the shows that confuses you totally if you don't have a decent understanding the Japanese honorifics. Miyamura being the biggest source of that confusion, hehe
I was talking of their specific names.
One way that I remember using that dimension was Ichigo 100% in which all female characters were named according to the four cardinal directions (Tō in Aya Tojo refers to the East; Nishi in Tsukasa Nishino refers to the West; Kita in Satsuki Kitaoji means North; and Minami in Yui Minamito means South) and the main character's name (Junpei Manaka) contain Naka which means center. That dimension was used more deeply in the manga but it's still a nice thing to know as it adds more to the show.
I was wondering if there was meaning to the names in ef.

Which one is more hard-hitting. Memories, or Melodies?

Memories is more heart-warming while Melodies is sadder.
That's all I can say. Other than that, I find any comparison to be meaningless. It's just two amazing pieces of art.
