I kind of liked it.The fight scenes really are well done but they should not be the main reason for watching it.I also liked the fact the characters looked fat when they really are fat.I'm sick of not seeing fat characters when the world is 30% obese.
The show is amalgam of short sf stories tied together by a mediocre plot.Yeah,it has some twists here and there but nothing special.
From the first episode you are given key elements for the next episodes. They basiclly introduced new technology and showed us how people would react to it.
It isn't a great show that you'll remember for a great time but it doesn't suck either.Characters are likeable but easy forgetable.
The things I liked about this show were it's simplicity and the the fact that it had a good ending.
I suggest dropping it right now if you don't like it.

I.G. Production made this anime. Unfortunality, you lack the sense of doing some research on this company.

You need to watch:-

Witch Blade
Seirei no Moribito

What other anime did this company make? Because honestly, anything IG Production makes, I'll watch. They know how to make an anime. They're pros.

And yes, RD is somewhat different. It's a more relaxing anime than anything you could describe. I liked it and enjoyed it, alot.

I stopped watching after 4 of eps after I saw lame fan service or whatever they call it when they show panties and stuff like that. Really lowers the seriousness of a show that wants to be serious. Also there's a difference between science fiction and fantasy, real dive imho was a fantasy with technology in it. I also had high hopes for it when they tell you that the same people behind gits s.a.c are behind this one.

the technology in the anime is really nice. i'd be very suprized if humans were to ever create something like that.

RD uses the cyberpunk genera to explore aspects of our psychology and society in an eclectic of short stories, some more effective than others. Real Drive is careful to take a passive approach - the world is neither good or bad, it simply is - the stories come from how the characters interact through and with it.

As SF it takes a certain amount of artistic license and suspended disbelief, although I would argue against calling it fantasy -  Real Drive appears to be trying to separate itself from the gritty over-industrialized settings which exists in ubiquity by using the ocean both literally and metaphorically, the tone seems more unrealistic though.

Personally, I genuinely find it heartwarming - there's generally an uplifting conclusion, and I found myself liking many of the characters, or at least understanding them.

I enjoyed it a lot because it is a break away from the normal/cliche animes.  It is a relaxing show and I barely payed attention to the overall plot.  All the micro stories and character development are the highlights of the show.  Cowboy Bebop did something similar with only a few episodes having anything anything to do with the macro plot.  The music is great and so is the actual animation.  It feels quite realistic.  You need to watch this with an open mind and don't expect anything over the top.  I love big explosions, super powers, fan service, and comedy but I get bored of that sometimes.  Shows like Real Drive and Kaiji (AWESOME!) fill the gap perfectly when I want something completely different.

So lastnight i downloaded Witch Blade to check it out, but not paying attention i dled this.

oh how i was pissed when i woke up this morning to find this dumb tv show.
I'll get the other one and check it out.

I just couldnt get into the main charr being an old man. I really liked the younger kid and the girl. Holon was really cool too, but the overall story just couldnt keep me entertained. I'm not saying it was bad or anything it just wasnt the kind i like, but still the animation was wonderfully done.

The main character is not an old man. He is a young man, who, while in a coma, had his body grow old. This is a major part of the drama that takes place. Can you imagine what he must be feeling? Leave it to Masamune Shirow to come up with such a premise. Near the last few episodes, the characters become really amazing. More so than other Shirow works, this one is about love. Love between friends, family, the possibilities of love or lust in an age when everyone and everything is connected.

The whole thing about him being an old man is just one of the unusual things about this anime, mind you, stranger things happen in some of the eps.

The main character is that girl, dude. That old man (CEO or whatever) is also a major character.

Reason why I downloaded this was because Production I.G. also helpd produce non-other than Ghost in the shell series + Furi Kuri and others. I got up to 4th episode before I gave up.

Note: Production I.G. also took part in producing Avenger, which was excruciatingly painful to finish due to boredom.

=.= Really? I guess... Having a really average main character was unusual too.
That old guy who looks young is the Director of Electronic Investigations. I feel like he's supposed to be a foil for Haru.

That one was bad. However it mainly wasn't their production. Same for the excruciating Sisters of Wellber... Man, I forced myself halfway through that series and gave up.

I felt like I wasted 5 hours of my life... because half of the show is pointless and shallow fillers. Even without them the main plot is still weak - Man vs. Nature, the overused lame environmentalist theme. Not to mention the creepy relationship between an annoying teen girl and an old man(even if he's 30yo it's still creepy). The characters are generic and couldn't make me care about what happens to them(except Holon).
All you have to do is study it out. Just study it out.

Yay Holon! Definitely my favourite character. This wasn't one of I.G.'s best series, but I feel it's a nice one to watch in bits and pieces.

I just started on this about 2 days ago, and putting aside the odd issue of pantsu-flash and a more... "normal" depiction of females, I like this series. There's a broad range of issues being covered across episodes, and some of the opinions presented here are particularly enlightening. To quote a line I like (from memory): "Talent is love; it's like calculating pi. To some people, the first 10 digits are all they will ever use, and that's as far as they will ever strive to achieve. Those with talent will strive endlessly to get each and every digit of pi, never ceasing in their pursuit of perfection".

I don't agree with every point of view presented by the show, but they've all broadened my scope and view of things, and RD is definitely worth watching.

It seems to me they always touch the subject lightly then quickly move on. The control and surveillance through the use of advanced networking technologies, the forest episodes, the brain-down issue, how people loose themselves in the net and the ancient question of "Can androids be human?" I was hoping a more in-depth presentation of those topics.
All you have to do is study it out. Just study it out.
