I decided I ought to post here because everyone usually seems to assume my nickname is that of some mere utensil.
Well it is not about that, though the eating utensil does exhibit the property after which I have been nicknamed in a way.

Perhaps the purest example would be the fork() function, where by a new process is created by duplicating the calling process.
But, forks in the road, in rivers, in tree branches, and most significantly in causation, exhibit what forks are a little more clearly.

I wrote a paper on probabilistic causation with emphasis on conjunctive forks and that was all I talked about for a year or so,
and thus it became my nickname amongst some of my colleagues.

Also I may be a little insane because of that... viewing the entire world and myself as made up of forks of cause and effect...
So in a way I don't view it as a simple nickname, I am forks (and so are you).

It would be entirely too tiresome to explain here, so if you want to read about causation, here's a link; http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/causation-probabilistic/

My first thought.

You are either way, WAY too smart or too completely full of shit to be slumming it up here.

But since you're here anyway, welcome aboard.   ;D

lol, are you kidding? reading manga and listening to jpop jmetal is the patrician way to relax.
thanks for the welcome though.   :P

Hmm. Possibly the most unoriginal answer would be that I was 10 when I started using the internet and it's kind of stuck with me. I usually go between "heartless" and "heartvivian" and since heartless is usually almost always taken for some reason, I am left with the latter. Obviously "Vivian" refers to my first name.

Heartless is always taken because the internetworld is populated by angsty teens.

Haha. Probably true. Well, maybe I should get out of the habit of using an immature username for everything. I think it makes me seem like I'm 10 (again).

Speaking as a native speaker of American English, I think Indian names in general have an interesting sound, but you deserve an Internet cookie for turning yours into a pop culture reference.
It took an hour to write; I figured it'd take an hour to read.

Soo many people are nowadays, but yes. I was born like two or three days before he day we celebrate His birthday, so why not name me the same they thought...

I cant take all the credit for that though. My friend and I were just juggling about with our names trying to make some weird nickname for the other and i ended up with this. I realized it'd go well for screen nicks of forums nd other places and its stayed with me since...

I am 5ynthetic. I usually go by SyntheticEmerald or Sinthetic. I guess it spawned from my love of all things technological. I watched Gundam and I loved Big O as a kid. Then i found out about mechs, Bubblegum Crisis, etc. Eventually I stumbled upon cyberpunk, and i kinda got hooked on the bytes of data i soaked up about all things technological. I plan on finishing college and working on a side project of... light-up clothing. Not something that youd see a frat-boy wearing, but something that looks true to cyberpunk..   8) 8)

been on the forum for some time but never took the effort to explain my nick
so here goes
some friends and I were on a trip in portugal and we sat at a beach near Lagoa , thinking up names for eo.
At that time I was really into Goa-music and I had a french-speaking girlfriend. So my friends said that I was a "la(french definite article, referring to my gf as a joke) Goa(music)". But it was lame that la goa was also the name of the city Lagoa, so we just got rid of the 'g' (bcus it sounded cooler I guess) and that's how my nick/artistname was born

I'm attracted to glowing lumps of dust in space, and for some reason I replaced the -dots in polkadots with stars, no deeper intelligent reason behind it.

It was a Friday night and the last member of our usual gang had arrived. We put away the Magic cards and turned on Netflix. Several hours later we realized that what had started as a few drinks and movies devolved into a My Little Pony marathon.

That's when one of my friends suggested we play the Strike Witches drinking game: drink on pantsu.

Needless to say, that's how drunk I was when I made my nickname. As I said in the introduction thread, I think I was trying to make some pun on ichiban with ichibaka.
