Idiots try to get change for a $1000 dollar bill.
« on: March 04, 2009, 03:06:14 PM »
Yes, you read the title right. Three teenage idiots went to a bank and tried to change in a $1000 dollar bill. Linkage.

Is it illegal to have antique money? Most importantly they would get at least 3 times more from a collector.
For one thing, Tiff is not on any level what I would call a typical American.  She's not what I would consider a typical person.  I don't know any other genius geneticist anime-fan martial artist marksman model-level beauties, do you?

No, it is not illegal to have antique money. In fact, what they were trying to do was perfectly legal, at least in the United States. Though, like you said, they could have gotten way more than face value from a collector.

The bankers had reason to call the cops, though. The only reason someone would try to change in antique money like that is if it is stolen. An intelligent person, who got this money through legal means, would try to sell it to a collector for more than face value.

Gotta love the idiots from my state. ::)

Linking stupid crimes from Michigan relative to Detroit.....a hidden cheap shot/joke to the city or could they seriously not know any other cities closer in the state?  I mean seriously, Chicago is closer than Detroit to that area.

I tried to use a 2 dollar bill at a taco bell one day.

THe guy at the window told me that 2 dollar bills dont exist because he has never seen one, and that if i didnt leave he would call the cops on me...

I've seen about 3 or 4 two dollar bills in my life(none within the last 10 years) and tried to buy something with one myself.....which ended in failure even though it was legit.  I have succeeded with old silver dollars though.  Interestingly enough, the 2 dollar bill is still technically in circulation.

They are indeed in circulation. Most bank branches keep a small stash of $2 bills in the back, and you can request them. I usually spend 4 or 5 a month.

Oh, I love two dollar bills. I've gotten my bank branch in the habit of keeping several twos in stock. I spend around $60 to $80 dollars in twos a month, just as pocket money. No one's ever given me trouble about it.

There are times I wish someone would call the cops on me for using twos.  :D

I live in Michigan, so I know where it is and what cities it happens to be nearby.

It's an associated press article, so it's presumably for a wider audience than just Michigan. Pointing out where Texas Township is relative to Detroit just makes it easier for non-natives.

I know I'd feel pretty silly getting mad every time someone pointed out something in California relative to one of the number of major cities...

Maybe they should have tried to buy a bag of peanuts in NYC, I'm sure one of our handy adept salesmen here could relieve them of the burden of such a large bill :)

No charge of course. ;)

Did you know that you are supposed to ask your bank for $2 bills on the second of every month?

I was given a 2 dollar bill at the bank one day following a transaction and I immediately demanded the teller to give me 2 singles.

She said "Why?"

I said: "Because our hearts have not become one just yet my dear." :D

Detroits takes a beating though from almost every national news article though recently.  From our shitty former mayor, to the auto companies, and the rising crime rate.  Detroit never really gets good stories written about it even when it actually does something good(rare I know).  So comparing to any city in California is rather silly in terms of the amount of negative press and mentioning it with a crime that happens nowhere near it can be considered somehwat negative coverage....conside ring the already terrible national perception of the city.
