Still think there is no such thing as a "good or best" dub, but I'll haft to say DBZ is above average. Only Dub I ever bought and felt like I

didn't waste my money.

i hate that kind of thinking.  i just thought of a couple animes i found better and funnier in English than Japanese:  Martian Successor Nadesico and Golden Boy.

I have to agree with the general consensus of this thread that the Naruto dub sucks, but I also have to say that IMO this is also due to the fact that it is a terrible anime. I like the manga but I find that anime completely insufferable. Maybe if you cut out around 60% of the content of the entire series it could be better but as it is there is so much filler dialogue and the like that I can't watch it.

Also in regards to many people's dislike for dubs because it doesn't represent the original Japanese source I think this is only really an issue if you watch the subbed version first. IMO as long as the dub is good and I enjoy it I'm fine with not getting the original Japanese meaning. I mean I'm not Japanese so I have to imagine if you did an exact translation there would be some lost in the translation anyway, or things I might not understand because of the cultural differences. That said some dubs are completely atrocious.

The thing that bothers me the most is probably when the voice doesn't seem to match the character. Love Hina for example. (What was up with that horrible stereotypical southern accent with the one girl?) That also applies to the the japanese Goku.

Of what I've watched...

Best: Texhnolyze
Worst: Midnight Walker / Bastard.

I am a great fan of the original 3x3 Eyes dub, mainly because it was the first anime I ever watched, and the Streamline dub wasn't all that bad for a stereotypical American performance, The Pioneer re-dub is atrocious by comparision. I've done a new encode with the Streamline dub, but haven't got around to offering it up to Box yet.

As for love hina, the southern girl comes from Osaka, so they used a southern US accent to highlight the difference between the girls backgrounds. Apparently girls from Osaka and that region have very broad, distinct accents. I can't tell from listening to the original soundtrack tho.

hmm...I think dubbing sounds just fine as long as you haven't watched the subbed version first, I went throught the first ~50 shows of Bleach in english and thought the show was awesome, then I switched to subs, didn't find it very different and then tried to watch it in english again...and I couldn't do it, some of the characters are done fine, but the first time I heard renji speak I had to turn the tv off.  same goes for gurren lagann as soon as I heard Kamina's voice I had to stop watching.

Yeah, I know everyone hates dubs.
You are so narrowminded. I love dubs and I actually prefer them over subs. I only watch subbed anime if a dub isn't available or if i want to listen to the Japanese language version of something. Hayao Miyazaki said in an interview that we should watch anime in our language because subs distract us from the animation.

For my best dub, it goes to the Streamline dub of Lupin the 3rd: The Castle of Cagliostro. Lupin suits Bob Bergen completely, even if Streamline was forced to remove any references to Lupin and rename the character Wolf.

The worst dub I ever came across is Macross DYRL (aka Clash of the Bionoids and Super Space Fortress Macross). The americans are so lucky they never heard that dub. Once I'm able to upload on BoxTorrents, I'll upload it just so you can experience it. You can delete it later, no, better yet, I'll upload it on YouTube.

I would probably put Berserk as the favourite, or Samurai Champloo. Worst, I think, would be Naruto or GTO.

Same here, I always preferred dubs over subs. Reading subs can be a big headache actually.

Must be because you're not used to it... I prefer the subs if I have a choice, but don't mind watching dubs. The reading is pretty much the same for me as all english TV programs here get subbed anyway. The ones that aren't are usually children's shows... So for me it's par for the course.

As to best dub: Samurai Pizza Cats. Seen this one in english, and never had the inclination to actually hear the japanese version. They manage to pull off the jokes and such pretty well in english.

A worst dub isn't readily in my mind tho...

Actually, I have been watching subs for years. I have also played those hentai games (subbed obviously). While you may not agree with me, reading sometimes can get really tiresome. I only read subs when a word was not spoken properly. I just always found it weird listening to Non-English language.

I second those who voted Cowboy Bebop as best Dub. I watched the series subbed and then bought the DVDs and thought to myself as I watched the dub, "What was I missing?" Most Gundam franchises are also palatable to me, and I need to watch the dub of Code Geass to find out (I only have about half and episode of R2 to judge from, but from that, it sounded alright... the jury is still out). Oh, and Trigun. I was happy with both.

And for the worst... Bleach certainly comes up there for me, though the fact that I saw 200 episodes of it subbed before seeing 1 dubbed MAY just color my opinion a bit. Naruto also, but then again, I tend to have a hate-on for Naruto in any form (Haha, "Believe it!"). I'm fortunate that I haven't seen too many horrid dubs though.

I'm one of the people though, who prefers whatever he saw and heard first, even within the same franchise. Gundam Seed, for instance, I first saw on cartoon network in English. To this day, watching the sub seems a little off for me. Conversely, Seed Destiny, which I first saw subbed, I don't really like dubbed. Not sure why...
