Dune perhaps? Could be command and Conquer I suppose, but the machines remind me a little more of an old Dune game.

hmmm...I thought this one woulda been quick and easy, it still has a dedicated following and everything, although it being freeware nowadays probably helps. I'd post another screen...but all there is to the game is in the above one.
So hint: came out in '97

Hmm... the only RTS I can remember from 1997 is Total Annihilation (and it ~~was~~ still is awesome).

Yeah, I know, but the style of it looks similar. I remember when most RTS games had a control bar at the side instead of at the bottom of the screen. BTW do you play Spring TA, the free rebuilt version of it?

I have the TA i got from the store, so its orig. Also people play supreme commander now.

Man that game fuck up my life so much. I would play it untill 4 a clock in the morning on Gamespy (Mplayer back in the day) and on Phoenix Project. I quit the game in 2005.

EDIT: I still on a Mac version of the game factory sealed
