Final Ep of Clannad After Story
Nikran:
Ok, someone with greater comprehension skills and mental power explain the ending to me.
(click to show/hide)So we know now that the mysterious girl was Nagisa's + Tomoyo's daughter all along. It also seems that the idea that being in 'world that had come to an end' was the past was also wrong. It could have been the present, or maybe time is irrelivent in this case. So why was Ushio dieing in the frist place? What was the significance of closing off his consciousness from the world that had died. What was the significance of Tomoyo calling out to Nagisa in the end and also deciding not to regret that they had met. What happend in the end? An alternate reality? What cause it to come to be? The mysterious power from collecting the lights she talked about? Plz also fill me in on anything else that might be important and i might not know. thx
Southrop:
First of all, it's Tomoya not Tomoyo.
Basically, this is what I understand it as. Do note that I haven't played the visual novel, so my understanding could be wrong.
(click to show/hide)There are two alternate universes. The one where Tomoya and co. exist in, and the world that has ended. Tomoya is the robot and the girl is Ushio. That should be easily understandable. When Tomoya closed of his conscience to the ended world, he basically created a miracle. The lights, or feelings of people, created a miracle in which Nagisa survived the birth of Ushio.
When Tomoya calls out to Nagisa, that is the enactment of the miracle. The miracle enables him to make the choices all over again. He chooses to meet Nagisa again, and therefore it is possible for him to relive his life with Nagisa. As stated above, Nagisa survives due to the miracle, and then when Tomoya looks out the window, he sees the lights floating up to the sky. I assume this signifies that a wish has been granted, and now those lights or feelings are scattering or going to the world that has ended.
Ushio wasn't dying, she was very weak. This was because of Nagisa's condition. Unless you were referring to the world that has ended. We don't know if she was dying. But we do know that in winter, she goes into something like hibernation. We assume the world was either closed off or destroyed, but nothing is really given away about it.

Well it could be that when Nagisa was giving birth to Ushio, Tomoya thought that Nagisa died, adn in doing so created a series of events that he thought might've happened without Nagisa in his life. It became a series of events that would lead to his life being a big tragedy. The trigger was probably when Nagisa passed out and Tomoya started doubting himself and wondering if it was better that he didn't meet Nagisa.
But right after that Tomoya recollected his thoughts, and came to the realization that he couldn't have not met Nagisa in his life, because she completed him as a person. When Tomoya realized that, he came back to the real world, where Nagisa wasn't really dead, and woke up when Tomoya called out to her. This is me trying to interpret it in a realistic point of view.
Then there's the miracle interpretation, where Tomoya in given another chance thanks to Ushio from the other world. I like how they gave the series a happy ending, and I'm completely satisfied with how they did it.
I hope this helped you in some way.

The miracle one is what i'd put my money on. Theres enough supernatural stuff in clanned for it to be that one. The very idea that Tomoya (I got it right for once =P) actually imaged the whole thing is a bit sad (And makes me worry about him; we all heard of 'my life flashed before my eyes,' but he's gone and done a 'My future flashed before my eyes.' messed up stuff =P) and imo makes the events within it a bit meaningless. If u go by the miracle version, the events that occured helped bring about the miracle in the frist place and so nothing was without meaning or value.
Overall i couldn't be more pleased. I fully expected Ushio to be saved, but always assumed that resurrecting Nagisa would be more then we'd ever get. And yet now we have a whole new reality where she survived, Tomoya doesn't go through a fucked up 5 years afterward and Ushio never had to suffer not having her mum or living without her dad (For those 5 yrs).
