This is very intresting. So in the VN Tomoya skipped helping anyone and married Nagisa who died the same way as in the anime. Then Ushio followed the same as the anime again. Afterward Tomoya dies from greif overload and is able to meet Ushio/Mysterious girl who sends him back to that moment where Nagisa and he met at the bottom of the hill. It's in this second cycle where he aids all the people in the anime and (Unknowingly?) gathers the light orbs which allow him at the end to alter fate and get the ending we saw in Clannad 22. I like the idea of how the VN plays out, which is actaully a full repeat of the past. We had to skip most of the past and just jump to the moment of tragady itself and avert it in the anime.

Another thing to mention is iirc he is returned to the Illusionary World each bad end and is sent back. Also after each route you finish shows another light orb on the start screen.

Well I think I totally misunderstood the ending reading these posts :P

(click to show/hide) Are you absolutely sure Nagisa wasn't the girl in the other world? I assumed she had all those dreams and things in the real world because she was really the girl in the other world. I also assumed that in the end she was the one who managed to save her daughter Ushino from dying. My thinking was that the life where Nagisa did not die after birth was more just a dream as in the end they showed Ushino the child and the girl from the other world both in the woods. I assumed somehow that this meant Nagisa had managed to save her daughter from the other world and now her spirit lives on with her daughter....Most likely I am just terribly confused. {/spoiler]

Amazing series anyways. Had me bawling from episode 16 all the way to the end. Especially when Tomoya started singing Dango Daikazoku to his daughter. It tore me up :P

I assumed that the reason why Nagisa has memories of that world is because she has some sort of connection/close ties to it. It makes sense since she was the one who could bring the mysterious girl into their world as Ushio. If this wasn't the case then Tomoya could have married anyone with the same result. But as far as i can tell it had to be Nagisa.

One thing that occured to me. There was no reason for Nagisa to have died in the anime; Tomoya had the orbs of light and could have saved her the frist time round.
