To Love Ru & Myself; Yourself
« on: March 14, 2009, 09:53:46 PM »
Finished it a while ago. I really felt sick watching most of the episodes in the anime. There was about 8 pointless/useless episodes. They were completely numb and unforgiven to let me waste my time on them. The characters were pretty good, the animation was done well, and the ecchi -- especially on DVD -- was freaking awesome. They've done alot of censoring (which is not as horrible as Rosario to Vampire Capu) but the DVD brings out all of the goodies.

Another thing I am going to complain about ... is the repetitive scenes ... fucking seriously, this is 2007, 2008 and going into 2009. Repetitive scenes need to be killed. It was redundant in a whole bunch of episodes ... it was boring, retarded, and ridiculous. Yes, this is how I really felt about it. I've completely lost interest in this anime when I noticed those things. You can't cover it anymore. Those boring episodes were actually the major targets. This anime could have been much better with 13 episodes, and less female characters (the pointless ones).

Overall, I enjoyed the ecchi, fanservice and characters. Most episodes were exciting (excluding the ones I've mentioned). I'd have to recommend this only for the many female characters and ecchi/fanservice. The opening theme in terms of animation and song were a big plus in my book.

I've also re-watched Myself; Yourself since To Love Ru got boring around episode 19-20. I had to kick the bad taste out of my mind. I clearly couldn't remember many things in Myself; Yourself that I thought I knew! But, once I watched it again, most things came back to me as I was watching the scene as "Ah, I remember this!" and "I remember that one!" but thats after the end of that scene, or so. I did notice one flaw in the anime ... and its sound/music. But, thats okay. Myself; Yourself is still one of my favorites. Nanaka <33

So this is mostly a rant huh? So did you buy the dvds, a boxset or was it a fansub I was unaware of - and yes I do agree there are to much pointless, even dull episodes....

I only buy the stuff I've already seen. I never purchase something I haven't seen, that's a risk if you know what I mean. It's from a fansub (Chihiro) and the DVDs were done by another group or they were pure RAWs. I pretty much flipped between the two every time there was fan service in a scene.

I just finished The Ocean Waves. It's from 1993, not too bad ... but I have one thing to say ... I'll never watch something as old as that. Oh my god, animation and graphics are just as important to me ... ;[ I realized that. I liked the movie tho'. Alright .... its time to pick something good.

well, I love "Myself; Yourself" really much to the only thing is a -(minus) about is that is to short, I wish it was like 1 season extra before the end, I did not really like the "10 year" later part but next to that it was a really good serie :)

I think they rushed the 10 year later part. BTW, they are releasing a Japanese game Visual Novel on the PS2, and its a sequel! I'd love to have a second season to further complete the 10 year period that they rushed.

Just started this anime watched the first 3 er 4 episodes so far. it seems pretty good.
has a decent cast, the lead male isn't an oblivious rock and pays attention to his pretty female surroundings.
He's also tryin to reconnect with his "childhood friend" again and hook up with her too which is nice.

So FAR so GOOD! hopefully the supporting male gets some!
tatsujin thx!!( for nothin! ) thanks Sebur for the SIG!

I watched this series recently and I quite liked it. It was almost soap opera levels of drama, but they interspersed comedy episodes every other ep or so to balance it out. Personally, I would have preferred if that hadn't devoted so much time to the weaker comedy and had maybe spread the drama around a bit more, but it was still quite good.

I like the specific drama itself; it was as dark as I would have hoped and wasn't quite as wangsty as I had been afraid it would have been.
See, I was actually afraid that the series would be wangsty crap after seeing the OP (the OP and ED songs were good themselves, but I am talking about the visuals here): It featured the main character standing in a crosswalk in from of a bland-name Starbucks listening to an MP3 player that wasn't playing anything. I mean, that kind of imagery just screams "wannabe socially-critical wangst can be found here!" but it wasn't really all that awful.

This is definitely the sort of thing I am always looking to find: Exaggeratedly high drama, but in a relatively sane world without magic or giant mechs or any other thing that doesn't actually exist. Similar to School Days, in that regard... So yeah, this is a good one.

That'd be helpful. Would rather not let another good thread of Myself; Yourself die out. I really love this series, very much.

i did use the search function too, btw. and upon looking at said thread i figuered that maybe the anime deserved its own thread instead of this being to love ru & and and, Myself yourself.

maybe ill just start making double anime threads,  Baccano OVA & Black Lagoon OVAs...i dont think so.
but w/e i have no problems with thread merge but know that i DID search.

I would much rather an anime having a thread of it's own, rather than being merged with another one.

It's more of a similar topics merge, since this one has really little to do with ToLove Ru - but perhaps I should of renamed the thread as well...

O/T
Question... does M;Y have sex? I know TLR doesn't...

No, as far as I remember it doesn't - it's not even ecchi, but that adds to the value of the series - since it's a really messed up slice of life.

If I remember correctly, back then the threads were really dying out and I was watching anime at a very high rate speed, finishing series after series and I was posting new threads very quickly so I felt shy >_>;; So I kinda merged two animes at once. I stopped doing that tho'.

I only buy the stuff I've already seen. I never purchase something I haven't seen, that's a risk if you know what I mean.
I do a lot of blind purchasing when it comes to anime and manga. I mean, it's not like bad series outweigh the good (on the shelf). I just do it in the same way when looking for a book. Read the info on the back, look at the art work and title, then decide.

But anyway, on topic:

I was even able to finish 10 episodes of To Love Ru. These days the whole "alien girl falls out of the sky" have to be pretty well done, or else they suffer the fate of being just another alien/magical girl anime. After all, it has been done to death. That doesn't stop me, but it was as if the series seriously wanted me to stop watching. It was action packed...but so boring at the same time. Like watching fluro-green paint dry, but with a borderline furry walking all over it as it does.

Repeated scenes in this anime is extremely ridiculous, I mean they've reused so many scenes, there was at least 8 episodes that should never existed. They had no plot, no story, retarded fanservice (very bad ones). This should have been a 13 episode TV series. Maybe they learned their lesson and switched to the OVAs. I heard they're pretty good. Oh, I was talking about To Love Ru.
