Since I never encountered those guys, will wait and see how it will all go.

is this really a big deal?

if fansubwiki is correct, a lot of groups have announced their plans to sub this anime

According to that list, gSS or AniYoshi are probably the good choices.

Taka is a good group and I watch there naruto releases....well not the AVI versions because they look like shit. Still I'm happy that a

semi-quality group is deciding to pick it up. "Would have preferred eclipse" but the only thing I have against them is the timing of there

releasing. Why do release the 480p version first and wait 3-5 days to release the 720p? :-\ Even if it is just a upscale I want that lol.

ACG, Darksoul-Fansubs, Destiny & Yuurisan-Subs & Yibis, Elricest, KyouNoSubs & Tomodachi, AasaSubs, gSS, AniYoshi, Ayako, Your-Mom, Himatsubushi, Taka Fansubs, Fork

Let's see, I've never heard of or never DLed anything from the 1st 6 groups, so they're out of consideration until screenshots/comparisons/comments crop up.

gSS -- would be a worthy choice, but they'll probably release only in 720p 400 MB+ files with softsub karaoke that will choke my CPU. Not what I'm looking for.

AniYoshi - too literal.

Ayako - oddly enough, just might be my group of choice. They've improved from their early work to a point where I trust their subbing, and they've always done SD releases.

Your-Mom - well, we all know how they are...

Himatsubushi - don't know them.

Taka-Fansubs - might be worth checking out, or at least I hear their work on post-dattebayo Naruto Shippuuden is all right.

Fork - weren't they one of those groups that subbed some of the second half of FMA 1, and managed to romanize everything differently than what ANBU-Keep had done beforehand?

But this might all be moot if Funimation jumps on the licensing early. If that happens and no decent groups continue subbing, I may just wait for the R1 release or a version thereof.

Got any old fansubs on HDD/DVD/CD? Please take a look at this thread.

Yuurisan is not bad, judging by some of their work on Regios and their joint with SHS on Kurozuka (though I dropped them like a shot when Ureshii picked it up).

KyouNoSubs are a fairly new speedsub group (as you may have guessed from their name), and have all the characteristics of one.

Ayako's been doing alright recently, their Kannagi is quite good. Definitely my choice for an SD release.

Himatsubushi did the recent release of Macademi Wasshoi, seems to be so-so but watchable.

PS I wouldn't trust a group with the name Elricest.  :-X

Upon further research, ACG is either a raw releaser or a Spanish group, so they're out.
Darksoul hasn't finished anything, ever.

Please note that I have not ever watched any FMA (my sister fangirling over it didn't help), though I may watch this when it comes out.

gSS sounds like the best if they do 400 mb soft soft releases.  i like the better visual quality.  i only saw the first 8 episodes of the first fullmetal alchemist so i'm definitely watching this new series.  i don't know why i stopped watching it since i liked it.  i just do that sometimes.  i did that with saiyuki not that long ago.

I believe this is a good bet as they know this is a very anticipated show, and the time that it takes to license anime seems to shorten more and more lately. Until that happens, I will most likely grap the Ayako releases, but more groups may jump on the bandwagon.

R1, or if we get lucky, it will end up on a crunchyroll with a official subing.

compared to many other fansub groups taka isnt amazing.
Especially when so many good groups are probably going to pick this project up

BSS or AnIYoshi would be the best.
I'm worried that Funimation will do the same thing they did with Slayers Revolution, ie. send C&Ds on behalf of the Japanese owners without licensing it first (Funi licensed Slayers about half a year later, in late 2008).
In that case, we might end up with black label subs, like the anonymous ones on Slayers Evolution-R, which may not be very good.

ACG - Not great subs, though some of their work is okay. Translations is the only part that I consider okay, by the way.
Darksoul-Fansubs - Do not want. They are speed, and offer crap translations with crap karaoke and typesetting. Just don't.
Destiny & Yuurisan-Subs & Yibis - Dunno about Destiny and Yibis, but Yuurisan-Subs is pretty decent. Better than ACG in my opinion.
Elricest - Never heard of them. I think they're new.
KyouNoSubs & Tomodachi - Kyou no Subs is a speedsub group. Their work is okay. Not good, not bad, but good for speedsub standards. On the other hand, Tomodachi is a very decent group. I dunno how this will turn out.
AasaSubs - No thanks. They're speed, and definitely not as good as Kyou no Subs.
gSS - gg and BSS. Great work will be made here.
AniYoshi - Good typesetting effects, karaoke, etc. Good translations, but as Zalis stated earlier, sometimes a bit too literal.
Ayako - Good typesetting, karaoke, translations. This group is one of the better groups subbing this, if you are looking at it overall.
Your-Mom - No.
Himatsubushi - Most of the guys in this group are in Ayako, or something along those lines. But they're speed subs. Their translations are decent, but the releases themselves aren't good.
Taka Fansubs - Take other groups translations, edit them, put it into a container and release. That's what Taka Fansubs do.
Fork - Never heard of them.

So it is a new group then. Just with some old members. At least from what you say, they won't be as bad as some of the other groups doing this show.

That's quite a serious accusation, and as a member of Taka, I'm quite offended. I'd imagine our translators probably would be too. Taka Fansubs DOES NOT, has never, and never will, use another groups' subtitles. You'd think our translations were different enough to make this obvious...

EDIT: We also don't "put into a container", as we hardsub...

Sooo....Taka picks up FMA......what's the big deal? Why was a thread needed for such a "great" announcement? If any of us want to watch FMA...we already KNOW who picked it up. And seriously...why would anyone watch from Taka when we have Eclipse and Shinsen?

Well, I'd actually tend to agree with you. Us picking up FMA isn't exactly huge news. Although I'd like to think that we still have something to offer in the face of such other great groups :)

We're stylistically a bit different from Eclipse, for example. We have different styles of editing and encoding. So this can produce a personal preference for one style or another. I'll admit to not knowing much about Shinsen's release. They're getting kind of low ratings on AniDB, though, which is strange; they're usually pretty awesome.

taka is too slow in releasing in my opinion. plus the 1080p is an upscale.
