I don't know how many times I've been enjoying a fun, lighthearted show with a lot of fanservice, only to be reminded, "Oh wait? There's actually a plot going on here?" Stuff like Maburaho, DearS, Yumeria, Magikano, the whole Familiar of Zero franchise, They are My Noble Masters... I didn't invent the "Story detracting from fanservice" tag on AniDB for nothing, after all.

That's also a valid point. With very few exceptions, I prefer my series to remain true to what they are, and not switch halfway through. Both Chobits and Ikkitousen fell victim to that. If they chose one or the other, they would've been great... but by switching halfway though, it really hurt them overall.

i can live by that. >_>;; the way of the OTAKU

For me it really depends on the series. I think some have gone too far while others have completely ignored the fans. Sometimes fanservice can be a good thing but still there's times when it is annoying. Like for instance, what I like to call "photo shoot mode", where pictures of the characters trying on different outfits in suggestive poses flash across the screen. It really annoys me when shows do that. I mean it can be done well, but it almost never is. It especially bothers me when its pretty clear that they are going for a loli thing. Kinda creeps me out...

as you said it depends on the anime. . .say watching kanokon. . .or rosario to vampire. . .well since the storyline isnt really that important you can focus on the fanservice. . .
but if you have toradora, evangelion, kare kano or those amazingly good series with an amazingly good storyline. . .fanservice isnt really needed

and fanservice on SEASON 2 of CODE GEASS! god! it was really out of place. . .
