yup. . .when they made that they said "lets win "best fanservice" award this year guys!"

the good thing about kanokon is that you dont get stressed out like other harems with fanservice about the gay guy that wont dare do anything with them. . .

My favourite fanservice is in Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, because it's hilariously ironic and self-deprecating.

Fan service is great and for the most part I think it stays in its place.  As long as it doesn't start invading serious and dramatic animes...I'm all for comedic and fan service centric animes!  Though I did enjoy Aika and Najica that mixed action AND fan service.

Two words to describe retarded fan service:-

Code Geass.

Nothing pissed me off more then wasting time with the dumb fan service ep, especially the one near the end where everyone was chasing Lelouch i think and Knight of round girl came charging after him with her Knightmare. Wtf? It's a fucking war machine that someones using to grab Lelouch to win a prize? Code Geass would have us believe that it's a super intelligent anime, but i can't respect it at all when it goes superhuman stupid with the fanservice eps. Should have used that time to develope the story further, not to waste time with utter crap.

agreed.

Lelouch was a pretty boy since the beginning of the series, how could you not see that episode coming from a mile away.

I agree, it was like sitting down to read Crime and Punishment only to realize about halfway through the editor of this edition decided that it was too boring and so he put a couple pages of porn right in the middle. You may enjoy the porn but then when you realize where it is and try to get back into the book it's completely ruined the mood and tone that the book had been building up in the first half. Anyway that's my rambling analogy for Code Geass' ridiculous fan service. Feel free to put your own favorite philosophical or deep work in place of Crime and Punishment.

You guys are over-exaggerating as if one day a Nickelodeon "Blue's Clues" epsidoe decided to talk about the joys and pleasures of giving your fellow toddler oral fellatio but to watch out for Herpes and always use a condom.

It was not that drastic of a divergence from the series LMAO. ;D

Yeah I guess it was just a drastic departure of what I was hoping it would be. Not that Code Geass was bad or anything I just had an image in my mind of what it was going to be and when I actually watched it I found that it wasn't that.

errr...but are you guys not tired of seeing the same fanservice happening in all animes? i kinda gets retarded after awhile...especially if you're used to ecchi stuff.

I think the problem is that Americans are more used to Ecchi themed scenarios with the ever dominant multi-billion dollar global porn industry than the Japanese who are just getting their feet wet in the industry.

To date there have only been a handful of Japanese stars who have crossed over to mainstream American porn simply because of the fact that most American males do not find whining, crying and or baby-ish behavior to be arousing unless there is painful anal penetration involved.

It could also mean that the fan-service will be over-sexualized in some cases to compensate for the fact that either there is no fanservice in the edited for TV version, or that porn is really hard for children to get in Japan these days so it is fufilling a small purpose for the local audience.

If you notice the type of Ecchi present in the fanservice of mainstream Anime series are a bit more sensual, mature and less childish from a Western perspective than actual Japanese porn for some reason.

Haha, very ironic. I've been talking with some of my friends about the fact that a large majority of anime title's have at least one beach/hot spring episode that rarely has anything to do with the actual plot. Reading this topic I realized all it was was fanservice. But I don't think we can just flatly go ahead and say there is or isn't too much, it all really depends on the setting of the anime and how well its integrated into the series as a whole. The whole Lelouch thing was stupid, but not necessarily out of place in terms of the setting, but in regard to the plot it had no real meaningful value.

How can there be too much fanservice?
All you have to do is study it out. Just study it out.

LIIIIIIEEEESSSSS!!!! Like, 90% of all the best anime I've watched are sorely lacking in the fanservice department. Drama + tears > the occasional boob shot + panty shot.

Which makes me wonder, is there such a thing as dramatic fanservice?
