Aion
« on: March 20, 2009, 10:33:47 AM »
Yes, I know there's another thread already about it. It hasn't replied to in like a year and I'm no necromancer.

I was wondering if anyone else is really looking forward to this being released in NA / Europe. Most likely it'll be out late this year. The graphics look amazing and so far from what I can tell it's blending the best aspects of Asian and Western MMOs.

I'm currently playing the Korean Retail Version (no, I don't know korean). It's actually a lot of fun playing a MMO in a language you don't know. Every time you manage to do something it's pretty exciting. The quests so far have seemed pretty straight forward. I've just gone to town picked up quests and then head outside of town and kill mobs until something comes up on quest tracking. I've been looking as much as I can into quest / skill / stat translations to get an idea of what I'm doing. It's been a lot of fun so far.

So.. anyone else playing this now like I am or at least watching the game closely?

I looked at it and first thing to say about all fantasy games, they should be more honest and fun. Basically drop the Warrior, Scout, Mage, Priest and use real names instead: Tank, Crit, Nuker and Healer.

Otherwise it seems like a "we add nothing new to the genre" mmorpg. Actually it is funny that all graphically advanced MMO did not do so well.

Anyway it is not released yet so there is nothing to think about yet.
For one thing, Tiff is not on any level what I would call a typical American.  She's not what I would consider a typical person.  I don't know any other genius geneticist anime-fan martial artist marksman model-level beauties, do you?

I'm enjoying it lots so far, despite not being able to read anything. Just going off translations + general mmo knowledge.

So apparently the character customization is insanely deep. If you pre-order from GameStop you'll get a BETA code and so I did, tho' the servers won't be up till June 18th. I'm gonna try out the BETA and decide if this game is good enough. Has anyone played it yet?

I played the Elyos 1-20 closed beta weekend. I hit level 20 on my Chanter. I recall there being more character customization options in the Korean version, but there still is quite a bit. Gameplay is nice, I really like it and it definitely reminds me of L2. I was discussing this with some friends of mine, we agree that people migrating from WoW as their first MMO might not like it, but anyone who's played a MMO before that will. With exceptions of course, but generally we think that'll be the trend.

I'm Arveene on Elyos, and I'm not sure what name I'll use for my Asmodian character for the next beta weekend.

Playing the game ... very, very beautiful. And it is like just like WoW, only missing few things but for a BETA ... +1 for it. I'm still playing it. The character customization is deep as hell as well.

Just noticed a funny thing when I checked the pre-order options out on webhallen (a Swedish retailer). They charged ~10 euro more for the download edition and didn't include the 30 day play time. So I would end up buying the DVD version, downloading a torrent iso and install from that iso...

Is it worth getting the game if I want to play a support character?

I've played china-aion for 5weeks, enjoyed it pretty much excepft for the fact I didn't understand what other players were talking about. Currently waiting for eu-beta to start, auth-server failed again this beta ;_;
I like the fact that Aion have world-pvp as pvp.
If anyone want to give a whisper/friend invite I have a lvl20 assassin on Ariel-server as Elyos, and lvl10 sorc as asmodian on azpheal - Same name on Both: Penthero and I'm playing on Eu.
Also remember that the beta is version 1.0, retail will be 1.3 which will be the latest version when it's released.

Also sosseres, you only need to download the ncsoft launcher, you can download aion directly from their servers making you fully prepared for the release. Though the current version is obviously the beta-one, but it can be patched later to full-retail.

Also regarding support characters, they're always needed in massive raids and similiar. They're strong enough solo also and can deal with people 1v1 fairly well(well except for assassins who go and deal massive critdmg when you're unprepared...).

Also just because it ain't released yet doesn't mean there's no info about it as it's been retail-version in Korea for ½year now and eu/na-version will be the same at release except for some localisation.

Also Arveene, you can try getting a ENU.pak and place it in your language folder, doing that and changing region-settings on your computer to NA can make Aion take the ENU.pak instead making the game english, though expect that errors may occur.

Haha, I'm playing US Closed beta right now actually. Level 20 Chanter on Siel named Arveene. I'm at level cap (level 20 with 1mil/1mil exp) and about 10 quests in my log complete. Just spending this weekend finishing up some more quests and preparing for the 1-25 Abyss weekend. I'm working on pots, and crafting / destroying items for enchantment stones. My weapon is already at +6. =) If I can get about 5-10 more quests, I might be able to hit 22 as soon as next weekend starts.

I made my orb +10 on the lvl1-10 beta on my asmodian, it had better stats than lvl24 green orbs ;)
Also do what I did on first closed beta, go and die get soul sickness, do that 10 times so you get max level soul sickness and 25% of the exp bar in your experience pool you can buy out with soul healing, go and kill mobs until you got the exp back you lost. Now you got 1+1/4 level directly at start of next beta =) No quests included.
