I got to level 20 on azphel, and my entire legion rerolled on a different server because it was so laggy, full of Q's, and had retards there (topgoon). I'm almost level 20 again on the new server, but I need to get my crafting back up :(

My legion got Level 3 today, and 10th position on the server (the in-game rankings only update once per day, but the online rankings update within the hour).

Also our cape is sexy.

Hit 27 earlier tonight. I'm like the only person in my legion over 25. So I have about.. 90% of my legion's abyss points. Luckily all of my friends from WoW are starting to roll and they'll catch up quick.

how is the pvp in this game?

My friends and I are thinking of starting up, we are all 3-6 time gladiator's in wow. So we are only interested in the endgame pvp system.

is it pretty in depth and balanced?

It's almost like the old world pvp system in WoW but a lot more in depth since this game is based on pvp and wow's pvp was an afterthought. If you like arena style pvp you won't like Aion.

as long as it is, or can be competitive then we will like it. The format doesnt really matter much.

That does sound fun, old school WOW pvp was fun but was pointless. Dont like to pvp all the time but so is the pve worthwhile or just a path to pvp?

PVE is just a path to PVP.

PVP is what the game's all about.   Combat instances / battlegrounds - competitive play with REAL challenge, combined with an entertaining storyline, new content, events, etc = success.

That's where WoW kind of shined.

Now then - http://www.gucomics.com/comic/?cdate=20090911 - back in the thread, I laughed.  :)

Too many games are all graphics, no content.

2 races - that's ... meh.

Plus - success in Asia does not translate to success in the USA.

360 vs PS3, anyone?   Come on ... step on up.   Xbox gave PS3 such a beating, they were FORCED off their high horse of NeoGeo ... er, a $600 price tag.

Here - we have a porn industry, and we have a games industry.   If I want to fap - I'll hit google image search.

If I want to play an RPG - I'm not expecting "busty bouncing triple-g breast 2.0."   Eye candy does not a game make.

I can't wait till you all hit max - then we'll see how Aion fares ... for real.  :)    So far - I'm agreeing mostly with what critical commentary I've seen.   Personally - I'd give it a 6/10.  Nothing revolutionary ... nothing special ... other than good graphics, different races, and the Fallout/Oblivion style of full character customization.   ( * With only 2 races.  2 races.  Honestly.  What is this?  1970?   Oh wait, even DnD had more races than that.   Nevermind - what is this, 1500? )

The best thing I could imagine coming out of Aion: full-world flying in WoW.

Gotta keep up with the market, Blizzard.  :P
Nothing.

I wasn't bothered by only having 2 races as you could pretty much make whatever race you wanted with how in depth the character customization is.

If you want to play an elf...  make your guy look like an elf
If you want to play a dwarf... make your guy look like a dwarf

simple as that...

Sure you don't get the 'racial' bonuses other than the asmodian / elyos bonuses but who cares?

Its not like race matters anymore in WoW...

Anywho, all that being said... I'm not sure how long I'll last on Aion...  Its a cool game and all, but it just seems very... constricting (I think thats the best word for it). I'm still planning on seeing it through the 30 days, but who knows what happens after that.

Neither race nor class matter anymore in wow, except sometime when your in between a buff and a nerf.

I wanna play another MMO but if I play something that is the same as WOW, ill love it then get bored 6 months later and if i play something that is "different" it probably wont work(cough Conan).

I could just try all these new MMO's..... ARRGH 20g patch, It Burns, It Burns.

Well, after being locked up in Aion since headstart, I've finally come back to try and catch up on the forums and anime. So, so good. I can't fucking wait 'till we start doing fortress stuff.

@Dontcarett
If you want something that is fun and different from the typical MMO, try DDO. The combat is totally unlike WoW, race and class selection matters a lot and the game is instanced rather than being an open world. It's hard to be further from a WoW clone than this.

On topic, you guys are making me wish I had ~$50 to waste to try a new MMO.

OH!

I forgot to mention it.  :D

D&D based on the good ol' rules - right?   Where power wasn't about level - it was about you using your head, fighting right, gaining & crafting cool gear ... not to mention working your ass off here and there to get some little edge that pushes you over the top, just a bit.

Quick to max level, but forever to master.   Kinda like Guild Wars - but it doesn't suck.   That's D&D.  :D

I seriously have to give DDO a run.

[ Oh man ... I miss my old NWN server.   We had a veteran tabletop P&P DM who did handcrafted stuff ... it fucking ruled. ]

I'm enjoying this game more and more as I gain levels. Level 32 now. I've gotten a few nice spells that are a lot of fun in PvP ^^

If you're playing Elyos on Zikel let me know! Message me in game or something.

I tried it but just couldn't quite get into it.  Went to Game Stop, pre-orded it ($5.00 deposit) and got my open beta key, and played it for the week of the 'open' beta.  Glad I only paid $5.00 instead of pre-ordering it for $50.00 from the web site.

I did give a honest chance, and really wanted to like it b/c 3 of my friends went from WoW to it.  But for me it didn't win out against WoW, and I can't justify pay for 2 MMO's.  I only the time to get my money's worth from one.  So I'm still on WoW, missing my 3 friends :(.

Sadly, I can't quite put my finger on why I didn't like it.  Loved the graphics, game play was nice, just didn't draw me in ./shrug.

Just remember,  before you criticize someone, walk a mile in there shoes.  That way you are a mile away and have their shoes. :P

I'm enjoying Aion so far, although I'm hardly far enough in to know if I'll be playing it long-term.  Is it revolutionary?  No, not at all.  Hopefully the pvp will be fun -- I'll find out when I get there.  Personally, I'm not all that worried about only having 2 races or 2 factions to play.  Me, I'm not looking for another game to suck up 10-30 hrs of time a week... just something to play casually a few hours here and there with my friends that isn't WoW, and has a bit of pve and pvp content.

I think sometimes people forget that an MMO is still only a game, and that it doesn't have to be a lifestyle.  An MMO doesn't have to be everything to every player all the time.  My feeling is, if a game is fun while I play it, then great, and when it stops being fun, I'll stop playing it.  I enjoyed the beta enough that I thought Aion was worth spending the $50 on it, and if I'm sick of it in a month or two, I haven't wasted all that much time or money.
It took an hour to write; I figured it'd take an hour to read.
