It's almost like the old world pvp system in WoW but a lot more in depth since this game is based on pvp and wow's pvp was an afterthought. If you like arena style pvp you won't like Aion.
That does sound fun, old school WOW pvp was fun but was pointless. Dont like to pvp all the time but so is the pve worthwhile or just a path to pvp?
PVE is just a path to PVP.
PVP is what the game's all about. Combat instances / battlegrounds - competitive play with REAL challenge, combined with an entertaining storyline, new content, events, etc = success.
That's where WoW kind of shined.
Now then -
http://www.gucomics.com/comic/?cdate=20090911 - back in the thread, I laughed.
Too many games are all graphics, no content.2 races - that's ... meh.
Plus - success in Asia does not translate to success in the USA.
360 vs PS3, anyone? Come on ... step on up. Xbox gave PS3 such a beating, they were FORCED off their high horse of NeoGeo ... er, a $600 price tag.
Here - we have a porn industry, and we have a games industry. If I want to fap - I'll hit google image search.
If I want to play an RPG - I'm not expecting "busty bouncing triple-g breast 2.0." Eye candy does not a game make.
I can't wait till you all hit max - then we'll see how Aion fares ... for real.

So far - I'm agreeing mostly with what critical commentary I've seen. Personally - I'd give it a 6/10. Nothing revolutionary ... nothing special ... other than good graphics, different races, and the Fallout/Oblivion style of full character customization. ( * With only 2 races. 2 races. Honestly. What is this? 1970? Oh wait, even DnD had more races than that. Nevermind - what is this, 1500? )
The best thing I could imagine coming out of Aion:
full-world flying in WoW. Gotta keep up with the market, Blizzard.
