Aion demo accounts are good for three days, five hours, or level 7, whichever is reached first.
(Edit)
This is ridiculous. Can you even, you know, really try the game at that point?

I'd like to try the game but five hours seem very little to form a good idea of the product...

A 5 hour demo?

Come on.   Even WoW lets you get 1-2 weeks depending on your source - and has a cap of L20 - so you can get a feel for the game.

Wonder what they're afraid of.    Even I would have given it a shot ( so I can hate legitimately ) to see what it's all about.  :)

Other software gives ya 30 days - 30 count em.   Even others yet - they give you a couple levels of the game to play to your heart's content ( World at War, Call of Duty, etc ).

So I ask again - what's NCSoft afraid of?   ;)

read carefully
its a 3 day trial
if you reach lvl 7 by those 3 days then you're out

so its 3 days or lvl 7 whichever comes first. . .
but we all know lvl 7 comes in 5 hours so. . .

i don't want to be rude, but i think you might want to reread the conditions of the demo account - carefully :P

it's active for 3 days counting from the moment of first activation
or for 5 hours continuous playtime
or until you reach level 7

so the point about being a 5 hours demo is completely valid - even without the stretch that you will obviously reach level 7 long before you've played 5 hours.

Yea- that's a big mistake IMO.   Even WoW - they give you a week or two - you can start doing the first low-level instances by the time you hit max freetime.   You can get a VERY good feel for the game by the time you hit L20 with WoW.   They hooked me - and I will be the first to say, I went into WoW as one of the most ANTI-MMO people around.

After the free trial ... well, I need my crack.  ^_^

They really gotta rethink that trial period.  Give some time for people to get a good feel for the content.   That's just too short of a period to gain a real liking of it.
Nothing.

now that i think about it. . .go into your "blocked" list. . .and look at all the zillion names like
"asdf"
"sdfes"
"sfeg"
"sdgrtyh"
"dfrhhh"

and so forth. . .so just a bot that reaches lvl 10 and starts spamming "AION GOLD! with promo code: Aion gift 5% more kinah"
so if they didnt even have to pay to get that bot into lvl 10. . .you'd triple your block list in a day or so.

that thing just came to mind

They should do just like WoW - limit chat and make it hard to move around for trial accounts.

Also - don't put aside that these accounts are people who were looking to buy gold (*or cheat/bot), and got hacked by the goldsellers with the trojans on goldellers sites.  ( Those people - I hope they NEVER get their account back.   Lamers.  They ruin it for EVERYONE. )

Aion is struggling with RMT and bot problems so it only make sense for them to want to keep the barrier of entry fairly high. At least they recover a part of they money they lose by trying to exterminate them via box sales. It's also relatively new so not having a trial means you cash in more on curious players. Hopefully, not having a trial won't cost them too much in the long terms.

They should do just like WoW - limit chat and make it hard to move around for trial accounts.
It's more than stopping the spammer. It's also about making it more costly for them to obtain gold.

One reason I could see them doing this is because at level 7 you have no access to any major zones or the bank. Therefore gold farmers wouldn't be able to just make trial accounts over and over to trade gold and spam with (you have to be level 10 to send whispers). Also the admin Cynic from Aionsource got his character cleaned for gold buying / ap trading (I don't know which, but those are the two reasons why someone would have all their items deleted).

Im still pretty impressed by the amount of spam there is. . .
i dont know if Wow is the same. . .but at least when i started (when it came out)

trough my 60 lvls of experience (thats when i quitted. . .before first xp came out)
i never saw that much spam till about 6 months into the game
