I still fail to see the distinction. As MMOs are constructed they try to get in as many different ways to play it as they can. Then it is up to you what you do in that world. If you follow the path the developer wants or not isn't of any relevance in an MMO you can still progress without it, if you want to. If you want to spend all your time as a wandering minstrel, crafting and never fighting a single opponent you can do that...
That there is a direction isn't of relevance for sandbox, only if you are forced to follow it. As in for example KotOR where you can't get to the next area/world until you complete certain quests.
Examples from when I played everquest 2, I didn't leave the beginner area for a week, I didn't want to, wasn't forced. Simply grew bored and moved on. When I got through I spent an entire day in the city using emotes and chat to beg for money (was a lot of fun). Neither of which any direction had asked me to do...

the difference between sandbox and regular mmorpg is the same as the difference between morrowind and mass effect, sure it is possible to go out and do something different in a WoWish mmo, but it's not very fun for a long term investment, in most mmo's you quest to level (grinding usually being way slower), instance with some random people, gain new stuff based off of class restrictions and join a guild for no apparent reason.
The point of a sandbox rpg is that there really isn't any leveling (if it's morrowind-esque like I said before) the only restrictions in travel are if you have the skills necessary to go there..and maybe a scroll of wind walking...no class restrictions, if you wanna be a mage wearing full heavy armor weilding a 2handed battle axe, then go for it.
So mostly I just dislike class and level restrictions on gear and not being able to go wherever I want unless I'm a certain level, I mean WoW is better than most but having a cery slowly expanding range is boring, I wanna go exploring, fly around with a levitation spell in the first hour of play and drop down outta the sky, crack open a dremora's skull and steal his soul with Umbra.

Well this is closed beta so it's not solid to compare it to open beta which Aion will have later.
Doing 1->25 aren't all that horrible in 3days, 1-30 though is very horrible, most likely not alot of player will get and actually try the lvl30 stuff as beta is 1.0. If it follows what the korean beta were, CBT#6 will most likely also be 1-30 only in order for people to actually have enough time to check the lvl30 content.
I will level a new char instead of going for 30 though, want to decide what class I gonna play in retail as I do not like to spend time rerolling alot of alts there.
