Ok, so I've devised up some more questions for you all! I use to play WoW until I hit 80, but then I didn't really see any reason to continue to gain armor because it was just another grind. I currently play Eve Online with no real satisfaction when playing it. So here are the questions!

Official TMRNetShark Questions For Aion:

  • Smaller than WoW, correct? But still filled with tons of quests and none really too similar (Get me away from Dailies!)?
  • Cities? How many MAIN cities? Are there smaller towns and bases for supplies and such?
  • Armor System, do you have to repair your armor and such? Does it get more and more expensive as you level? (I hated 50g repairs)
  • Definite room for expansions (like BC and WotLK for Wow)?
  • There is actually people playing it? How many people can fit on a server? (Estimate)
  • Is there a possible prevention of the number of "powerful" classes? (CoughPaladinCough)
  • Would someone who played Wow and enjoyed leveling in it (me) enjoy leveling in Aion?
  • And lastly, END game material... Will it keep me going (Like PvPvE and such for Armor or reknown or Cool looking Wings!)?
1. Lots of quests in 1.0(even though quest-exp scale poorly in 1.0, is fixed for our release). Haven't seen any dailies, only repeatable you can do 100times in total, what happens when you do all of them I dunno, never bothered :>
2. There's one main city for both sides(panda&sanctum). Though there are atleast one outpost for supplies(they have everything maybe except crafters & pvp-vendor & broker(see it like AH from wow, but only buyout).
3. No rmor repaid, you can buy shards though which increase your physical damage, quite expensive but quite useful.
4. After version 1.5 they've said there will be bigger update which most likely can be compared to expansions, though I tihnk it's more like Lineage2 system with chronicles(that will say big update lvl-increase and alot of stuff happens, but free compared to expansion).
5. Don't really understand, but there's no über-class that kicks everyones butt, but some classes are better than some depending on circumstances. Also some pvp-skills etc will be balanced in 1.5.
6. Dunno how many thhere are per server, haven't read anything about that, but EU servers had 20k spamming login-server CBT3-4 when it had 4servers, and were'nt any special queue to get in(though it did happen that it was above 600person before you in queue on the biggest servers).
7. There's instances and group-quests/campaign, it won't be fast to level to 50, but it won't be slow either. Olny leveled to 30 myself so can only talk from my experience there.
8. There's castle-sieges which gives you access to special instances only to the legion owning it, are also quite some world bosses and pve-instances. Also there's pvp-ranking and top 3 gain special abilities that's worth farming for if you feel like it. I dunno amount of instances etc, but I heard that around 20instanced in total are added in 1.5(most of them are end-game what I've read).

Even though I agree that korean mmo usually are what you describe, but if you actually bothered to read what's been written before that's not true for Aion. You can without problem reach 30 within a week(in version 1.0) and max level is 50 in 1.2(which has increased XP from quests etc) and EU/NA will be launched as 1.5(more quests increased and more exp also including more leveling instanced).

It's more like vanilla-wow than a normal korean mmo when it comes to leveling, also the most bothersome quest I seen were to collect 50marks that has 100% drop chance and that's a group quest(it can be soloed, but still marked as group) and that's a campaign quest that gives loads of exp either way.

Btw the fastest I heard someone level were 7days to reach 45(which is max-lvl in version 1.0). So no 1000 vials of super flying fishes sperms gathering ;o Though I would actually like if I got a quest like that.

WoW is ok - it's not as complex as something, say, on the lines of a DoD style RPG --- so if it's like that, with it possible to level pretty quick ... WITHOUT playing 24/7 - ok, that's cool - more high level players = more happy players.  The only reason you would prevent people from hitting the max - is if your devs & creative people are ... not creative at all, incompetent and failures ( see: silkroad online, rappelz, any korean mmo ).

Sure - if they took the plunge into allowing quick leveling - then some fun challenging gameplay, events, pvp all for max level people (and interesting paths for character development and skill combination).

Ok, so I've devised up some more questions for you all! I use to play WoW until I hit 80, but then I didn't really see any reason to continue to gain armor because it was just another grind. I currently play Eve Online with no real satisfaction when playing it. So here are the questions!

Hahahaha!

So I come to WoW - I know zero about it, never read a faq, guide - nothing - and I look at all these character classes ... so here's what's going through my head:

"Oooh, night elf ... hey, reminds me of the night elf boob juice [ that blue gamefuel stuff, if you aren't aware -lmao- ] they sell in the soda case ... that stuff tastes good ... human ... gnome ... lol look at that hair rofl midgets rule ... dwarf ... ... ... horde sucks ... ok - human it is.   Hmm ... classes ... warrior ... wtf's a warrior ... ah they usually suck ... mages ... bleh, parties suck ... druid, omg I made that mistake on NWN ... rouge ... thief always blows ... whoa paladin - they kicked ass in WC3 ... they were like invincible and shit - *click*"

I come from wow. . .passed trough warhammer and found it more complex. . .so it wasnt as enjoyable.
aion makes me as happy as wow.
difference? why am i playing aion?

i lost my wow account on a drunken night. my lvl 60 sham with the first earthfury boots that ever dropped in my server (5th person to reach lvl 60 btw) and im too lazy to redo all those quests. . .cause i had my warrior alt and my druid alt, . . .and doing t he same quests a 4th time is just not cool.

I remember 40 man raids. . .
nowadays you can kill onixya with 3 peeps. . . thats just sad man. thats FORCING people to buy the xp. green items from the xp are better then epics from the original.

aion is as easy to handle as wow. i've played a warrior and a priest to lvl 12 in aion and both are really nice!
i felt the priest was a lot easier to handle (can heal yourself. . .no bandages )
tho the warrior has some sick spell graphics.

as far as i've read pvp in aion is pretty good.
pvp in warhammer was awesome tho! that was a total plus over wow

so you should try it,. . . go pre order it for 5 dlls and get access to the closed beta. if you dont like it (which i doubt) just dont buy it.

OK.   It's looking like something I may like to try out - b/c WoW looks great and all, but ancient, overplayed, and dying.

So -

1-12 how long did that take?
1-30 how long did that take?

Can you hit a decent level without playing day and night?   ( Like, playing an hour or two a day - I hit max in NWN - and I played for YEARS with that acct, and had hella fun )

[ Really - even though I'm hearing "It's GOOD!!" - it's still got the mark of feces on it - that Korean flag.   It's still pulled out of that giant toilet bowl we know as Korean gaming companies. ] '

so you should try it,. . . go pre order it for 5 dlls and get access to the closed beta. if you dont like it (which i doubt) just dont buy it.

I'm tempted to - but - there's nobody who really played start to max yet - is there?

B/c - there are some Korean titles which are shit, but they're like constipation.   You're all good and fine for a while - completely happy ... then all of a sudden *BAM* it's the turd from hell.

But you don't know till you've already wasted hours building a nice char - not to mention spending some money on it.

i played from 1 to 30 in beta and i realy like it

except for when you are leveling and a group of 5 or more asmodians attack you and you have no chance of winning
or when you are hitting a mob and a assasin hits you from behind:)

kyanwan, have you played Guild Wars by chance? That's an excellent example of a Korean MMO without the traditional grind and forced cute characters. NCSoft is the developer behind both GW and Aion.

It's definitely true that the vast majority of Korean MMOs are shovelware, generic garbage, but that mostly applies to the freeware games. Effort is actually being put into making Aion by a respected and serious studio.

1-12 you can do between 2-5hours depending on amount of people and if you know the skills, 1-10 usually don't take alot more than 1hour to complete if I'm allowed to do my quests without bigger disturbance.
1-30 is harder for me, I made 1-25 last beta in about 15-20hours I think, I didn't check how many hours exactly but it around 1½-2hours per level 23-24 and 24-25, and that was pure grind without doing campaign quests.

Best way to actually check it out is to give it a try on EU/NA beta or try chinese out for a few hours. I also felt that the fact that it was korean would make it grind-feast, and honestly it were pretty much a grind-feast early on and luckily they actually changed that.

I would use the second one, as I hate that helmet in the first one ;P

Anyhow, last screenshot taken off my char some minutes before servers went down, I'm the one standing on the right.

Are they planning on holding anymore beta events, preferably one that I don't have to pay to get into? I hate buying MMO's on launch, because I almost always get burned, but then if they don't release a trial or demo soon after launch, I fall behind the curve when I do pick it up. Sigh.

Only when you fly, they have a ninja-like ability to hide them when not flying.

I tried to find Aion reviews but no one them were truly satisfying in terms of depth.

I have a few questions for those who tried it:
1. Can you list the biggest pros and cons of Aion? Justification a plus but not required.
2. How well and how fun is the flying?
3. Any other particularly cool, unique features that has less hype in the media?
4. How fun is the combat and how does it differentiate itself from other MMOs?
5. Worth playing when it goes live?

Thanks to anyone who answers. :)

(Please note, I've only played the beta up to level 21)

1. Some of the leveling can get tedious (oh shit... just like every mmo i've played!) and some of the quests can be done at way low levels if you're playing your class right (I think I did a level 17 quest at level 13 as a templar).  However, the game UI is very user friendly and [most] quests are pretty straightforward (as in don't require dredging around the entire zone just to find some guys shoe, who lost it at an undisclosed location... nothing like that)

2. Flying is restricted to certain areas in the zones (kinda disappointed about this) HOWEVER its still extremely fun in the areas you can use it.  And I believe that in the Abyss (end game) you can fly nearly everywhere (I think the higher levels you are, the more flight areas open up)

3. The only one I can think of is that every server is suppose to end up branching off and making their own lore.  As in, different outcomes from server firsts and what not depending on who does what or how they do it will end up changing the server compared to another server (Please note, This is what I hear, and I'm not sure how in depth it will be.  Could be pretty sweet though)

4. Combat for the most part is pretty straightforward.  You got your Tanks/DPS/Heals.  Each class has a combo system (think assassins from Guild Wars if you've played it) where you start with a base attack, which chains to another attack or effect (for example, Templars have a chain that goes Damage > Damage > Damage |  or Damage > Shout (which ups your damage and prevents some damage)

5. Worth getting?  Dunno.  I'm most likely going to check it out when it goes live.  I'm hoping that the end game material will be a challenge for most of the game unlike what Blizzard did with WoW and turned it into a cakewalk, where end game status didn't mean anything anymore.

1. if you are not a hardcore MMO'er (like me) and you enjoyed wow for the "easyness" compared to everquest and other "harder" mmo's (this is obviously subjective) this is a simple, easy to use, easy to go trough MMO. you dont need to spend your life in it.

2. its fun. .. untill you run out of energy and you have to fall to your death! lol. . . its really nice . . .free fly. . .i mean FREE FLY (in some zones tho) in most parts you can just like spread your wings when you jump off a cliff or something.

3. amazing spell graphs.

4. didnt get to play PvP since i didnt get that far (only played 2 days on each event. . .and had 2 chars lvl 15 each) but the combat on the creeps is nice when you get that "ultimate" type ofthingy . . .someone help me name that thing.

5. yes
