Evangelion 1.11: You are (Not) Alone [Blu-ray]
« on: March 28, 2009, 04:21:10 AM »

Finally! After about a YEAR from the DVD and 18 MONTHS from the theatrical, we are finally getting a Blu-ray of Eva 1.0!
Full 1080p H.264 (Film Transfer*) with DTS Master Audio 6.1. Specials will include several trailers for 1.0 and 2.0, Angel of Doom music video (or Promo-Video or w/e/t/f you want to call it), and a new Post-recording script. THERE ARE NO ENGLISH SUBS.
All packaged on one 50GB Blu-ray disc for ¥6,090 (~$62).

I so pre-ordered this and plan on subbing it. This is pretty much gonna prevent me from buying the RA/R1-US release if/when it comes out.

EDIT
*Here for details. Says "says that the digital anime won’t be directly transfered to DVD/BD, but that they’ll make new 35mm prints and create a High Definition telecine from the film." Damn. That means Grain. It looks fabulous!

Initial encode looked horrible and I guess I put too many effects in the karaoke. I also may have an issue with the FLAC audio going from 24-bit to 16-bit. So it may have to be a 1536Kbps 6.1 DTS-ES track.

 ;D

I would loved if someone subbed it, because Evangelion had already been in the blacklist (got license).

Most fansub group do not sub license anime.

Can't you just port over the already released fansubs of the DVD release?  I thought it was good enough already.

Yes I can and I plan on doing just that. However, because of this "1.11 Post-recording Script", there might be a couple of lines missing from Nyoro~n's translation. Lolfang did a good job on the translation of the DVD, it's just most critics are skeptical of him for his previous releases (maybe he needs a hearing aid?) but in this case the "actual printed script" was used. I am going to change just a few things in his translation: restore honorifics (hurr hurr), restore Japanese names (Rei Ayanami -> Ayanami Rei (only when they talk cause it's usually just "Ayanami!")
(click to show/hide)
), remove unnecessary 'karaoke effect' during first dream sequence, fix case where technician said "EVA-shogoki" and subtitle read "Evangelion Unit 01" to "EVA-01", and finally NOT HAVE ANY
(click to show/hide)
KARAOKE FOR THE SCORE!

Because this is licensed, and FAGamation wants to waste money attacking fansubbers instead of using that money to make decent DVDs (ugh... don't get me started...), look for this on some other sites. It's gonna happen, someone is going to sub your series before/while/after you release it and give to people for free. The only way to stop it would be to (God Forbid...) shut down the entire Internet.    Rrriiiighttt.... lemme know how that goes.... get back to me, my e-mail is sq.... yeah that would be pointless, wouldn't it....

P.S.: Because I'm not very good at it (read "I don't know how to do it" or "too lazy to learn it"), if someone wants to make a nice karaoke effect for ending song, I'd greatly appreciate it. Plus you can immortalize yourself in the process ;D.

Soft-subs (either kara-template or *.lua) would be easier for me to work with as I can change it if necessary and file size is tiny.

Looks like THORA is gonna do 1.11 too. Who cares, I'm still "Full speed ahead" on this.

other than the brightness adjustments and the naturally higher resolution I don't see anything spectacular.

*downloading the wmv version. it's kind of small but should give me a rough idea about picture quality.

This Blu-ray also has about 10 minutes of additional scenes not seen on the original cut. I am only 23% through it and the scenes I've seen are all from the TV anime.

The best way to experience it is to watch the full quality Blu-ray or to wait until THORA or I finish subbing it. I hope to be done with the 1080p/FLAC version by Saturday.

P.S.: I kind of raged when I saw 6.1 DTS-MA, 6.1 Dolby TrueHD, and 2.0 Dolby Digital. I understand having a 2.0 track, but both those lossless tracks could have been removed for a 6.1 PCM track.

Nice, the remaster looks much better.  You can't just turn up the brightness (or contrast) to show such nice detail without using the source.  I want it now :)

Sooo... Uncensored Rei boobs make an appearance, according to Sankaku. Am I the only one here to want to watch solely due to this fact because the franchise should've died a long time ago?

Probably.

You are talking to Box users, in which offers are denied because a better quality version will be available a year down the road.

Durr, made an appearance in the 1.01 DVD last year.

I don't know which is sadder, that I clicked on the image, or that I'm looking forward to it. I've always felt the Eva series was way overrated, and that the franchise is still being milked as much as it is just solidified my stance. Perhaps it's time for me to take a step back and refresh my point of view on it.
