It's just, the Arthur C. Clarke references at the end - "The Childhood of Man Will End" in references to Clarke's 1953 novel "Childhood's End" which features both first contact and human evolution... also isn't the 00 GN-drive kind of like the black monolith-thingy from "2001: A Space Odyssey"?
There's also numerous references to "The coming dialogue" with extraterrestrials made in the series.
The Gundam series have never dealt with aliens before, it'd at least be original.
