i heard that the manga continues after the ending of the series, i have not seen the series yet (106 episodes in total?) and its like 4 seasons or something. so yea .... i'd like to know if you do need to continue reading the manga to follow up on the series.

there are 103 episodes and its a great series. in fact its one of my favorites now. but the ending is just like the director of the anime just said hey lets just end it here at the last second. it makes me mad because i prefer watching anime than reading the mangas but if i have to then i will read till the end of the series.

The manga went on hiatus shortly after the final arc of the anime - it came back a few weeks ago, but there's hardly enough available to make another anime series with yet.

Oh, and the series isn't nearly over in the manga.

yea they were running out of manga fast so it was put it on hold with a very easy opening for another season/series
without ruining it with awful fillers that come with some other shows(bleach/naruto)

So i was glad when they ended it but made it obvious it wasnt over by any means

I'm just happy that for once the anime stopped when they ran out of material instead of completely ruining the show ala bleach/naruto/whatever by showing bad fillers. They'll probably continue the anime in the future but it'll take a while, there's only a handful of manga chapters available after the point where the show stopped as the manga recently had a pretty long break.

That being said I didn't like the anime all that much, the fillers, allen's girly voice and one sidedness of the characters just didn't work for me (for example the vampire guy was constantly shown constantly crying). The manga on the other hand I've thoroughly enjoyed.

Although the first half of the series was mostly boring filler, the show really started to begin to pick up in the second half and that's when I really started to like the show. I'm glad I stuck through it to get to the second half, it was worth it. Although them stopping the show temporarily right where they did is regrettable, I can understand them having to catch up with the manga. Like Dynellen said, I'm glad they didn't just keep going with more filler and make the show crappy like so many other long series (bleach, naruto). I'll definately be waiting for the next season to start when it does.

So how good is this show really? I've always seen it as this formularic shounen show just about demons. My friend keeps asking me to watch it, but as a veteran anime viewer I've gotten bored of the usual shounen shows like Get Backers, Fairy Tail and Beelzebub.

Is the lore interesting? Do some episodes get special treatments like Naruto Shippuuden's (hmm, I used to have these numbers down) 123 and Bleach's 166?

It gets better as it goes but it's not really anything special IMO. Beware of Bleach-esque ending though.

Bleach's anime ending was fine, whatever other faults the series had. There was no pressing need to continue it as far as the narrative goes.

D.Gray-Man ended before a conclusion of any kind was even in sight.

Afaik it stalled to prevent fillers - they wanted to continue in "one year" or so if I recall it right. Then stuff happened with the original author and later the whole continue thing became a myth :D

To me it's still one of the best shounen out there - the best ambient wise (color / soundtrack / personas...)
