Sorry, was trying to make fun of the Jonas Brothers in 3D thing while pulling a 4chan reference. Anime is 2D, real life is 3D...

I think the 3D part is an embellishment on quekmeister's part. It's not mentioned in the article.

yes actually i wouldnt get mad with a RL cowboy bebop movie. . .but the fact that they want to do it 3-d doesnt really appeal to me. . .
didnt they learn anything from the jonas brothers

Uh, it won't be in 3D, lol. I'll just edit my first post... so I can't be accused of misinformation.

NOT Carrie-Ann Moss.

Charlize Theron maybe?

Rofl I sure hope not Moss!

Charlize Theron... *thinks* Hm. Not a bad choice, I think she'd be able to pull of Faye pretty well. Would certainly look the part too!

It's hard to say who would be a good actor for spike. Hollywood has been churning out a shitload of emo seeming actors. There's no badasses.

Keanu Reeves... he's too old IMO.

Spike is more.. calm... but not stone faced like Keanu...

Yeah I have not seen 3D part mentioned either.
A good faye, hmm Monica Bellucci is sexy and sarcastic enough, but faye is supposed to be younger.

Robert Downey Jr. would be perfect as Spike Spiegel.

It's too early to assume it'll be an epic failure, I've always thought Bebop would translate well to live action - especially after seeing Firefly/Serenity.

...but does The Joss have anything to do with this inevitable trainwreck?

Why not just wait and see the release for ourselves before speculating the outcome?

Seems like a logical choice.

It seems as though the new big trend is Hollywood remaking anime/manga as live action movies.  The newest one I just read about is "Priest" (Manhwa).  Technically it's Korean, but whatever.  It's going to use the latter setting (Wild West) and so far it is looking like the only thing they really have pinned down is the director (Cory Goodman).

It looks like Paul Bettany will be playing the lead.  It may be good, but the way things have been going lately (aka Dragonball Evolution) we shall see.  I like Bettany as a choice for the lead though.  They didn't just jump on some unknown pretty boy.  The casting choices will hopefully be halfway decent compared to all the crap that is going around right now.

I just hope they don't ruin all the good stuff.  It's always exciting to see great anime/manga brought to the big screen, but not when butcher it beyond recognition, set it on fire, and then crap all over it.
Sig removed for being oversized.

I don't think they're going to make something good...the cowboy genre is washed out and for the post-apocaliptic cowboys we have mad max.
Then again,anime/cartoons which regularly are rendered in 2D won't do great in 3D...for me for example the new series of Ironman made in France in 3D didn't atract me even tought some say they were good.I prefer 2D...3D is for movie-only Universes such as Madagascar
or even Open Season.

I mean that they have the capabilities to make convincing visuals today, not that they have Joss Whedon.

Personally, I can't really see anyone who would obviously fit the role of Spike. While I do have my reservations about his acting skills, I'm not prejudiced against Reeves enough to assume he'd ruin the movie.

Is the 3-D like Scanner Darkly 3-d? If so I actually think that would work. Keanu Reaves I'm not so sure about but then its not as if it were Ben STiller being offered the role, I mean you could get much worse. Granted Reaves has the brains of a lobotomised, domesticated rodent and the emotional depth to boot but I mean if Watanabes okay with it I don't see how it could be that bad.

It's not in 3D. It was a joke on quekmeister's part.

In hindsight, it's funny how many people commented on that part.

Even funnier is how many people didn't read my original post, even after I changed it.  ::)

Oh well. Gulliblility is a major fault of mine. Regardless, there are many worse choices than Reaves, what if they'd lined up:
Ben Affleck
Stallone (I actually think this would be hilarious)
Vin Diesel
Jason Statham, along with his awful American accent.

I've got it, the best choice, Hugh Laurie as Spike! His sardonic personality from House can be ported over directly, and we can have Stephen Fry as Jet too! Heck, throw in Cate Blanchette as Faye, Keira Knightley as Ed and Johnny Depp as Vicious.
