Hayate no Gotoku - Name meaning?

I don't know why exactly, but for some reason I've have the meaning of "hayate no gotoku" (literal phrase) as "gust of wind" in my head. Can someone who knows Japanese better clear this up for me? If this isn't the meaning, I'm fairly certain that there is another literal meaning besides "Hayate the Combat Butler" to have a play on words, right?

Don't know, but I've heard before that it was "gust of wind" also. Unless Hayate the Combat Butler is a very loose translation or some kind of play on words in the japanese sense, as you said.

I heard of "Gust of Wind" a long time ago as well, for Hayate no Gotoku. It was translated to Hayate the Combat Butler tho'.

Butler is 'shitsuji' - you'll probably pick that up because they say it a lot.
The SS-Eclipse subs translate do indeed translate 'hayate no gotoku' as 'gust of wind' in the karaoke.

I've heard that it also means "The likes of Hayate," a slightly insulting phrase along the lines of "I can't believe I lost to the likes of you." And I've seen X no gotoku translated as "something like X" or "the likes of X" in other shows.

So no, "Hayate the Combat Butler" isn't a literal translation at all, just an official title. At least it's not as wildly different as Kimi ga Nozomu Eien -> Rumbling Hearts.

looks like there are still planning to sub it. i can't confirm it though. i was idling in their channel when koda was talking to the thefluff about hayate, rainbows and karaoke effects.

They released the OVA as episode 00, so we can pretty much expect them to sub the series.

But yes, the translation seems to be "A Gust of wind" or similar. That's how Eclipse translated it in the OP.

Did eclipse mess up or did the producers? I mean, did Klaus really say a month at 6:38? I know the anime doesn't follow the manga and there have been eps that I don't know from the manga. But isn't Hayate at the Sanzenin's since more than a year?

It's called distorted time. Don't worry about the time frame. That was what the producers put anyway.
