Glass Fleet
« on: April 02, 2009, 09:06:45 PM »
I just picked this up in Best Buy, cause I read a little about it in Anime Insider, and I am also very partial to space settings.
I'm hoping its good..  Has anyone here watched it?

I'm guessing its probably do not upload, but if its not, I might throw it out there.  This will be one of the few Anime series that I'll have watched in Wide Screen Format & Dolby 5.1, so looking forward to that on our HDTV :)

The show's got a good story. I was actually looking forward to it and never missed even one episode when it aired.

I'm liking it so far,  its got a lot of funny moments and pretty decent action.

I am still kind of confused as to the sex of some of these characters and their orientation / voice actors, however..

I really got into this show, even though the first few episodes were kind of slow going,  but I especially enjoyed the character development, especially watching Rachel go from the woman she was to  practically insane.   Was kind of relieved when Michels gender was comically made clear, cause she's not that bad looking.  My mom practically watched the whole series with me, which happens none too often.   She usually just sits in the room doing cross stitch or reading or whatever, but she kinda got into it.   My dad watched the first 2 discs too.   It was definitely more a show for adults than even the typical "mature" Anime I tend to pick up, but refreshingly so..   I don't get to watch many shows with pretty mature content.

I was a little dissapointed with the end of the series however..  They only briefly go into what happens to Vetti and Cleo, and how it changes them.   But at the least, flying off in the Glass Ship at the end leaves it open for an eventual continuation of the story if it ever happens.  Which I wouldn't mind..

I can't believe how many reviews tried to pass it off as dull typical tripe..  The dialogue can be a little painfully overdone at time, but I'll be damned it's better than listening to Kira Yamato or some other Gundam Pilot  cry every 2 scenes or give some moralistic lecture about protecting your loved ones war is bad mmkay!

And yes, the music was top notch.  It completely sold the series.
