Wow, I was under the impression that this was only going to be 13 episodes based on a comment made earlier in this thread. Serves me right for not checking up on it I guess :p. If it were only 13 episodes I was going to be severely disappointed, but if it is 24 then there is still plenty of time for it to make a comeback once it hits the scenes that weren't covered in the last series. I was already disappointed with K-on this season, I was hoping FMA wouldn't let me down too.

It's a year long show, 48 - 51 episodes.  I was saying that if they slow the pace down after catching up with the first show, by the end of the year long broadcast, there will be more than enough material available for another 24 episodes immediately after that.

And the next episode, 12, is the catch up point.  So you've got 36 - 39 episodes coming that will be new material for anyone who's only watched the first anime.

EDIT:  Just watched 12, and all that's gone wrong so far has been forgiven.  Awesome episode.

I've been pretty disappointed with FMA: Brotherhood up to this point for reasons already articulated here by others: I've felt rushed through the story without getting to know the characters as well and the comedic scenes seem ill-timed.

That said, I'm very excited to start seeing deeper differences between the new and old series. Additionally, I try to remind myself that at twelve episodes through the original series, how well did we know the characters? There's a new perspective at work here for me. Two, actually: this is the first time I've watched an anime series as its being serialized, and this is also the first time I've seen a new series based on the same source material (I think). Keeping those things in mind keeps me sticking with the show week after week. I don't dislike the show up to this point, but its not engaging me nearly as thoroughly as the original FMA did; I'd give it an average rating.

l'm gonna ask this because l didn't pay enough attention to this topic.

is this a remake of old story in a different light or a continuation ?

BTW, FMA was originally made by square right ? l mean, it's their plaything if l remember right ?

Retelling one would say. I know from hearsay that the first series differs from the manga beginning with an episode. This series is closer to the manga.
