I'm just saying that they are two different series. I really like how the first series was done. It was something I couldn't wait to watch every week.
I was also able to get a lot of people in to anime through FMA because of how well they did something that people can relate to. The loss of a parent can drive you to do something with your life that has some meaning.
With that said, I can also say that I've seen it many times over and I don't need all the backstory that I already know.
I personaly think that the lighthearted humor is a nice break from how overall depressing of a story it can be. Be it by myself, or drinking with some friends on my day off. I hope that's why everybody does! 8^]
Why do you watch FMA? I do it because I'm entertained when I do. That's enough for me.
My comment wasn't meant to be a dig at you or anything. Sorry if it came across that way.
I pretty much watch any show primarily for character development and plot, and I don't find a show entertaining if these elements are lacking. I'm the first to admit that I'm
really picky. Part of the reason I don't often watch anime with any of my friends is that they always ask me what I think of a show afterward and then get annoyed when I tell them.
The first 10 episodes of Brotherhood are thick with new, interesting plot points, but they are short on character development. You're right in saying that these are two distinct series, and therefore Brotherhood isn't gonna get a pass from me just 'cause I'm already familiar with some of it. If I had never seen the first series, I wouldn't have bothered with this new one past the first few episodes.
I'm glad I stuck it out, however. It's turned around just like 12 Kingdoms did after those first 8-10 really bad episodes.
I'm particularly struck with how much more of a stand out character Al is this time verses the first series. I liked him before, but I like this stronger and slightly more willful Al even better. He provides more of a balance for Ed.
