Not sure why I am bothering w/ the spoiler tag at this point but...

Ed lost all of his ability for alchemy. They went out of their way to show him trying while trying to patch the roof. I did find it odd, however, that Alphonse did not use any Alchemy in the last episode.
Also, Selim...

What was up w/ the dot on his forehead?
I am still a little amazed at how happy everything turned out in the end. It was almost too neat / perfect. The only way they could have gone further would have been to resurrect Hughes.

(click to show/hide)Isn't it just a homoncololus dot/wire thing like some of the others have?
He is still one of them you know.

I still think it may be possible for him to use alchemy, if he drew a circle. Why would he draw a circle, when by the time he finished the drawing, he could nail the shingle on the roof, and be off the roof?
I think if nothing else, on his travels, he is going to try using alchemy, just as experiments. And I think that he really, and this may explain Alphonse's refusal to use (click to show/hide)alchemy in the final episode. Ed would prefer to use a more natural alchemy such as Eastern alchemy, as their alchemy was one created by Father homunculus, and there is something wrong with it
Havoc10K:
nothing wrong with it's alchemy type, it uses tectonic energy, while eastern uses nature energy, the thing that was wrong with fathers alchemy was his purpose of using it, nothing else, the reason why they see eastern as a little bit better is because it can be channeled at long ranges and is mainly developed for healing purposes, unlike amestrians wich was developed mainly as means to war.
Ed can't use alchemy anymore, he sacrificed it to get Al's body and soul back, he gave a toll of his total alchemical experience and abilities, in the last ep when Ed wanted to try using alchemy was to show how much alchemists are used to rely on it instead of good hard work to harden you body.
their journey most likely has something to do with simply exploring how alchemy is developing in other countries, the yalready know how amestrians alchemy developed, and Xing's as well, the huge difference makes up for a lot of research, if all goes well they could make an incredible book of knowledge, who knows, maybe in the future someone wil lstart a real academy of Alchemy, and thus is the reason how the Al-Revis Academy was created /jk
but it could be very interesting to get to know more ways and styles of alchemy.

So what happened to Hohenheim's papers? Has he been wandering the planet after abandoning the family with an empty attache?
I don't see how logic works all that well in the land of make believe. I'm just looking for the loopholes that would allow the creator to allow Ed to use alchemy again if he ever chose to make him do so. What? you never saw someone get blown up, and there they are alive right after commercial, or maybe a few weeks later? The impossible is common happenstance in works of fiction.
It doesn't matter to me if Ed can or cannot use alchemy. I was merely under the assumption that should a new film be made of post series events, alchemy may be useful to him then.
