I think it's actually better if you haven't watched the first anime because you won't be comparing the new version with the old one.

Yes, they mentioned Xing. I don't know why I'm so bothered by it, but I was surprised that they only made one comment about the mine-town incident Ed solved and showed a picture of the guy who was abusing his authority over there. Minor side character in the manga that's still around.
Flashback material for when that guy reappears(?). or they're really going ahead full steam, skipping minor side plots people have already seen in the first anime adaptation.

I haven't read manga. But I really liked the 1st FMA. So far the 2nd FMA lacks the character depth/development that was present in the 1st series.
But i have my fingers crossed that it will get better as it goes on.

Well yeah, you can't expect much character development with only 1/2 the # of the original's episodes and additional cast.

Wow, episode 6 certainly went all over the place and rushed through a few different story lines. They are really trying to reach the episodes quickly I guess. Still, this new episode had Winry in it, who is still one of the better female characters I have seen :D
